*Update: Phone is also starting to flash a black "HTC Sync Manager" screen intermittently while trying to connect.

Okay, this is really irritating the living hell out of me.

I got the HTC One XL (in Australia, think its the HTC Evo 4G elsewhere) 5 days ago.

HTC Sync Manager worked for the first 3 or 4 days. Now it refuses to work.

It will not connect, it just hangs on the "Connecting..." stage as indicated in the top right corner of the program.

Occasionally it will connect after several minutes but then hangs on the "Preparing to Sync..." stage as indicated near the lower left of the screen beneath the phone image.

This is driving me insane, I've literally uninstalled and re-installed the program on my PC three times.

ANY SUGGESTIONS? Anyone else suffering the same problem?

Great phone but I'm seriously regretting getting rid of the iPhone and if this can't be fixed, as well as some other problems with the phone, I'm either exchanging for the Samsung Galaxy S3 or waiting for iPhone 5.

*Mods, I think I posted this in the wrong forum so am re-posting here.

Had the issue at first. The thing that worked for me was a different USB port on my PC. If you have ones on the case, try one in the back of the PC on the motherboard. It worked for me, so hopefully it will help you.

I've already tried this though, on the notebook I have two USB ports, tried them both.

After letting it sit on the "Preparing to Sync" notification for >10min it finally finished. I attempted to Sync and it made it to ~50% then disconnected. Now it won't connect again.

I need to Sync often and this is definitely not acceptable. A shame to have to change it for another phone as apart from this and a headphone issue it is a great phone.

When I get home I'll try USB connections on the PC and my other notebook but this is quite ridiculous.

It's got to be the program itself, I think.

I mean now for the third time, since the last (3rd) installation, upon opening the program it adds my media all over again. Despite having done this twice already!

I'm guessing HTC Sync Manager is a new program or something? #Buggy

Suffice to say this is annoying the sh!t out of me. Definitely returning this POS.

What version # of HTC Sync are you running?
  6. fcukhtc

    fcukhtc Well-Known Member

It is HTC Sync Manager the version you're directed to download from the HTC site upon first connection of the phone.

This is the name of the setup file: setup_1.0.34.4169

I've also selected the "Check for updates" option through the program and it advises me I have the latest version.

So I'm assuming it would have to be the latest version.

Is it possible I just received a "lemon"?

Apart from this issue, on occasion sound will drop out of the left channel. I've tried 2 different headphones and it's occurred on both. Also the radio continuously drops out and I get a lot of static even when it manages to keep reception.

I like the phone, it's great and more than capable of everything I need but this syncing issue won't cut it.

I never used the thing on the phone. I was directed by another forum member to download HTC Sync from the internet.
    This is what I used

Okay. You're using HTC Sync, not the Manager version. Maybe I should try that but perhaps the Manager version is for the Aus release (One XL), though I'm sure they're identical phones.

We've had a bit of discussion on this model. The One X is the U.S. AT&T version while the XL is the Intl. version. The hardware is the same, just the carrier firmware is different.

    SOLVED - at least for me ! . . . now hopefully for others :) ! ! !

I had the same HTC Sync Manager issue the day I received my new HTC EVO 4G LTE . . . called Sprint - they could do nothing . . . called HTC Support and all they could do was open a service ticket which they escalated - took them 3 days to get back to me.

In the menatime I solved the HTC Sync Manager problem on my own - it is a dud in no uncertain terms for the HTC EVO 4G LTE . . . I downloaded and installed HTC Sync version 3.2. 20 (not Sync Manager) . . . it has wporked flawlessly now for over 2 weeks . . . when HTC Support finally called me back to tell me they had found no solution, I informed them of my 'fix' - they indicated that they would add it to their Support page, but obviously this did not happen !

Okay. This program is fine to use with the Australian HTC One XL?

My phone isn't an "Evo" it is the HTC One XL. If I'm not mistaken I believe this is the Australian equivalent of the US Evo. As in it is exactly the same phone, only labelled differently. I could be wrong though.

And inasmuch as when connecting my phone to the PC for the first time it directs me to download HTC Sync Manager, I think it is the correct program for my phone.

This annoyance is a real deal breaker.

Just for clarification my phone is the HTC One XL LTE (4G) Dual Core on the Australian Telstra network

HTC Sync is pretty buggy and can be temperamental.

I use MyPhoneExplorer (there's a PC client and an App you install on your phone), that's much better at doing what HTC Sync is supposed to do than HTC Sync is.

I downloaded HTC Sync and whilst I can at least connect the phone to it where HTC Sync Manager failed, you're right; it is still buggy. It would cease syncing halfway through and files, music and contacts would be missing. Frustrating.

This client you mention, is it capable of syncing everything? Music, pictures, contacts, notes, downloads, apps, etc?

Also does anyone know the return policy/protocol for HTC phones?

The return policy differs dependant on your country so you'd need to check with whoever you got the phone from.

MPE will do all that sort of thing though, yeah.

MPE is awesome. I can sync through WiFi. Thanks.

Only thing is it doesn't seem to have a media section/tab like it does for messages, contacts, etc. I can't import libraries.

What do you do, just drag and drop or something?

I'm pretty sure there is but it takes a little bit of setting up. I'll have a mess about when I get home from work.

Took it back to the store today. They tried connecting it to HTC Sync Manager there, it wouldn't connect. We did a factory data reset and it connected after that. However, due to the audio problem (left channel dropping out) and the fact that it did initially connect to HTC SM then failed to a few days later they're sending it off to Telstra to test if it is suitable to replace it as an ELF (Early Life Failure).

Gave me a POS Samsung flip phone in the meantime and said it will take a week!

Not very happy with that kind of service considering I spend $300/month to this provider for various services.

Anyway, can't blame HTC for the provider's poor service.

Hmm, I'm having the exact problem with my DNA. On the OSX Sync Manager, it tries to connect, the HTC Sync flashes, and it fails. On Win 8, it doesn't even notice it. Drivers were installed.

Me, too, with Droid DNA. HTC Sync Manager is terrible. I will find a replacement.
