I have the HTC Magic phone from Rogers (Canada) and I just recently unlock the phone.
yes, it definitely works in europe. I was in france just a couple weeks ago and it worked fine. The only problem is that you cannot get 3g. If you were to use any data, it would be a fair bit slower. However, chances are, you won't get any data with a prepaid card anyway. This is a problem for people who live in europe and want to use a north american phone(or vice versa) but not really travelers. I would use APNDroid to make sure that you don't use any data and get charged a hell of a lot(assuming you don't get data with your prepaid card).
If using prepaid card, it will work since its unlocked already.
Many prepaid card has data in it, but it is not cost effective.
I'm not interested in data plan at this time. I just need to be able to place / receive calls and I was looking to hear from somebody who actually used the Magic in Europe (when the phone was purchased in North America).
