Okay. I have 2 EVOs. My wife works in a hospital and has been complaining that her phone sucks. Calls, texts, and emails all come in fine, but the ringer of the phone does not go off. I first thought she had somehow turned it off since shes not familiar with using smartphones. She got home and all the settings were correct but the ringers wouldnt work until i did a power cycle......I thought maybe it was the phone.....

Just to be sure, we switched EVOs. Mine has been problem free and I use it heavily. Well, now she is having the same problem with my EVO while hers is running perfect........Tech support has no clue what the problem is and neither do I.......The only thing I can think of is some machine must be interfering with the EVO......she works in a lab at the hospital and most of her coworkers have sprint and have no problems at work......They can stream Pandora all day with little interruption. Her 3g service is bad and the ringers dont come on.....I can understand the signal being weak if there is interference but no one can figure out why the ringtones dont work. They work for a while when she gets there, but they go out during the day......Her phone has the stock ringtones and mine has custom ringtones off the SD card......I really dont want to exchange it for a different model but her coworkers with blackberries and HEROs work fine while the EVOs dont........Coverage in the area is excellent.....

    Very strange and frustrating......

First try updating the profile through Settings--> about phone--> updates.

If that doesn't work try a hard reset. Turn the phone off and hold the power and vol up, clear the storage. you will lose everything on the phone (not on the sd card) so you will have to start from scratch.

If you have not yet done a Master Reset on that handset I would suggest you try it. It will wipe the phone of everything and put it back to factory settings

This is crazy.....both phones work perfectly fine away from her work. At her work, they go completely bonkers......She has my phone now which I have used almost every waking minute since getting it.....Worked perfectly.....She takes it to work at it goes completely haywire......I told her to do a power cycle and the phone wont turn back on....

I feel like i'm in the twilight zone....

she finally got it to power back on and its ringing again.....is it possible to lose some kind of signal and the phone has to reset to get it back? I've never heard of a lost signal interfering with the actual ringtone though.....

I thought the use of cell phones was banned in hopsitals because of interference with machines?

Sorry to hear that... that sounds like a very idiosyncratic problem and those tend to be frustrating!

Have you tried putting the phone in vibrate mode without ringers and checking if it works? I can't think of a logical reason why it would, but just to eliminate all possibilities that might help you narrow down the source of the problem. Maybe that will spark some sort of idea...

This is weird. I say keep switching phones and see if it keeps happening, but it sounds suspiciously like operator error somehow.

Was actually more for TDMA technology. CDMA and GSM in hospitals is not that bad. Not 100% fool-proof, but not that bad.

i agree with illini3000 she may just be moving in which case it won't ring loud at all (which i find annoying it should have a default of 3-5 seconds normal ring THEN quiet on pick up)

Its not user error and its not the moving the phone setting....i disabled that.....the evo must have something in it that the machines are interfering with that the other sprint phones dont have

Could be her lab experiments back firing lol. It really does sound like what ever tech that was built in the Evo is not playing nice with the machines in her lab. It could be one machine in particular but the only way to find that out would be to shut them all off and try them all out one by one.

Our critical medical equipment runs on a protected frequency band. You cannot interfere with it with your cell phone, wifi, etc.

Though there are still some devices in nuclear medicine and angiography that do not do well with RF interference.

Hospital equipment throws out some crazy waves that kill cell phones. It is not the phones.....it's her job. Tell her to quit :)

You know, I had the same problem on monday.... I was so excited to play with my new EVO phone that I starter to install programs to play with... one of them was Pandora... It was working fine until it stopped playing and then it gave me a force close error... at the time I didn't think much of it as I moved on playing with other programs/games... well I didn't notice that anything was wrong with my phone until I was missing calls and text due to no ringer volume... I had to reboot my phone in order to make it work/ring again.. this might not be your problem but just maybe it could be :) good luck bud!

Download quick settings, hold the search button to run it and check the volume level in that, that are a little deeper

Yeah yeah, at first i thought it was her too....she doesnt go into the settings and mess with anything.....thats why i checked it when she got home and all the settings were correct.....the ringtones and internet didnt start working correctly until i did a power cycle.....Once it came back on, everything worked perfect......

I'm wondering if its possible for a machine to be sending out a frequency that throws the EVO off somehow and powering the phone off/on somehow resets that signal......
