gmail sucks for me so far. I am used to the iphone setup with push yahoo. It was instant two-way communication with yahoo. I thought this could be done via gmail with the eris. I have my account setup using the gmail icon and nothing setup via the eris/htc mail app. I cant seem to get it to sync unless I hit the refresh key. I didnt get any gmail today and when i went directly to gmail using my laptop it showed all the new mail. now when i refresh they come to my phone, however, now i have moved them to another folder - oh wait "label"...sooooo f-ing stupid - and they remain in my gmail inbox on my phone even after hitting refresh. i have my mobile network and always-on mobile network enabled. can anyone clear this up?

btw, i have imap enabled in my gmail account but pop turned off.

Without using the "mail app" Like I said I do not have anything configured in the android mail app and when i click on the gmail icon it doesnt refresh folders/labels correctly and doesnt push new mail.

    1. You use the Gmail icon, not the mail app icon?
    2. You get the "@" as a notification?
    3. If you move a message/conversation from Inbox to another folder/label it moves and syncs with your mobile gmail inbox and browser gmail inbox correctly?

A couple more questions...sorry...just trying to figure this stupid thing out.

    1. When you login to gmail using a browser do you have three "imap" folders/labels that were created by the phone?
    2. Are you sure (not doubting you just making sure) it is pushing mail and not simply syncing every 5, 10, 15 minutes etc?

I dont see additional folders created by the phone from my browser but the time stamps on the mail recieved match when I recieve it on the phone so I am assuming it is a push.

did you already have the gmail account before you got the phone or did you setup the gmail account via the phone setup?

also, when you click the gmail icon do you view your mail in the "inbox" label/folder or the "all mail" label/folder?

Yes I set up the gmail prior to setting up the phone and I view the inbox from the gmail icon or just the dropdown when I get the @ in the notifications

When you open the gmail icon does it default to the "inbox" or the "all mail" label/folder where you are saying you see all your new messages?

sounds like you don't have autosync setup.

    menu button>settings>data synchronization>

check boxes for "background data", "auto-sync" and "gmail".

my G1 syncs instantly without fail. Often my phone gives me a notification before my browser shows the new email.

I have them. I push fine though. Check your sync settings.

i reset my phone and sync'd it with another gmail account and all is fine. my auto-sync settings were correct and I didnt change anything. Called Verizon and they said it was on the google side (their servers werent responding back to my phone). So no good answer but simpy changed my gmail account and it works. Just now finding out about certain attachments that cannot be downloaded unless you use the browser. I thought google had smarter people working over there but I guess not.

Are you sure that you have IMAP enabled on the gmail account in question? Try turning off and turning back on the setting. The heartbeat interval on the IMAP side of things for gmail may be off.

If that does not work, manually move ALL mail into a Folder (Ahem... label, excuse me) so that your inbox is empty. Send your test mail's and see if they get pushed to the phone. If so, you have a corrupt message header in one of the email's sitting in the inbox which can commonly throw off the Date/Time which is used for calculating heartbeat intervals.

    BTW. Sup Jeffyo...
