My Eris is awesome, but I need more than a 528MHz processor from two years ago. I don't want the droid because of its form factor and lack of multi touch. Is verizon coming out with more androids, should I wait? Any Suggestions?

There are some recent rumors about the motorola tablet (sholes) being announced at CES next week. although someone might be confusing that with the devour(or calgary also).
Many of us are waiting on the next high-end HTC device coming hopefully soon.
I have returned my droid and am using an old device until more androids come out.
that might be an option for you if you're wanting to return the eris before your trial ends.

    goodluck and happy hunting,
    chris

Motorola might have something out soon, and it'll probably be announced the end of next week. Wait for that. If you want something from HTC with the snapdragon processor...well, that'll be April. How long are you willing to wait?

I can wait, but I need to look at my options. Should I give my eris away and go back to a non functional phone just to keep my upgrade eligibility for that long?

Definitely see what CES brings next week. I think it runs until next Sunday, then go from there. I believe the HTC snapdragon is definite, though not sure when from January to April it should be expected (recent signs say April). Again, wasn't expecting anything high end from Motorola until recent rumors, but that's set for a Jan 6th announcement, day after Google's. That's the best I can tell you. I REALLY want a phone now, but I don't want to use my upgrade on a compromise, and right now anything not HTC snapdragon I feel is a compromise for me.

We're in the same boat. Should I return my eris and wait?

Also, would I be able to get a loaner phone? The whole reason I jumped to the eris is because I wanted an android phone, and because my omnia 1 was done for.

I would return it, given what you've told me. How long do you have before your 30 days are up? Do you know anyone with at least an old flip phone laying around that you could activate? I would think someone you know would. I tend to keep my previous phones. Worst case, pick up a cheap, basic, used flip phone on ebay for like $25 or something.

Return it and wait. Then wait some more. Then wait just a wee bit more and the perfect phone should be out by then.

No one here is going to know you needs as well as you. If you want to wait, return it. If you dont want to wait, keep it. How long will you have to wait? Maybe a month, maybe 6 months, maybe a year ... no one really knows. Will the next phone that comes out be perfect? No chance.

I think kofspades summed this thread up pretty well.

Yep, join the club LOL. I decided with all of the craziness about yes they are/no they are not getting a high-end HTC Android phone at VZW that I would just keep the Eris because I cannot stomache the thought of going back to my BB Curve. I will use the Eris until a high-end HTC phone comes out.
I am putting aside some money each month to pay for the extra out of pocket it will cost me after I sell my Eris and my Curve. The instant gratification part of me wants it to come in January but I doubt it will happen. Every month it takes I will have more saved towards it. Until then, I am happy enough with the Eris to get by.

nekoki, is it even worth it? Since you have the subsidies in your plan, and you buy a phone full price, it won't even count.

I don't know about perfect, but it's probably worth waiting for something with a processor that came out after 2007. Can't fault someone who doesn't want to commit for a full two years on already two year old technology. Buyer's remorse is the worst which is why I always advocate thinking through your decision before you pull the trigger. Ask yourself: Will you be happy with the phone in Spring of 2011 when you still have a good 5 months left on your contract? I swear the way some of you on here harp on people about waiting for what they want, I'd almost think you're salesmen for Verizon, trying to push your current inventory. "Don't wait. The HTC Diamond is a FANTASTIC phone and it's ONLY $99 with a two year contract!" LOL

It will be to me. If I decide it's not for some reason I wont get it. Who the heck even knows if something is even coming out within the next 6 months? In the mean time I am enjoying my Eris. I'll watch and wait to see what comes out and what people's experiences are with said devices...

That's the thing. I don't know if something is going to come out in early January (as everyone else), and I don't have a phone that does everything I need it to do to take me through the waiting period. ERIS is awesome, but the keyboard just can't make it for me, as I am someone who heavily types and emails on my phone.

Maybe it's just my eris. The keyboard has EXTREME lag.

Killed some apps to see if it makes a difference?
Do you have the haptic feeedback turned on for the keyboard? That can lag it good..

I just have sound feedback. Even though I type moderately on it, it can't keep up. Should I take a video?

Nah no need, I've experienced it before.. do you have a lot of texts in the thread? Like over 200 or so?
Also, are you using the native app? Or Handcent or something?

I noticed Handcent would make my keyboard lag a lot...like BAD.. so I uninstalled it and used the native app. Keyboard's much faster now. I mean if you don't want to you don't have to but I just think that's some kind of problem with Handcent. And definitely TRY to keep the threads deleted if they get high. A reboot, sometimes, helps also.

I just tried it in the native app and I see about the same lag. When I type, even slow, it just can't do it. Sometimes it will even forget the auto correct when it gets too far behind. *I will not make an iPhone comment here *

I also do a soft reset every day.

I also need to use Handcent because it splits the texts for me when they go 160+

Thank you so much for your help!
