Root I think my Hero just died (kinda)

My phone isn't rooted, so I am not sure if I am posting in the right area.

Well it isn't completely dead but it seems to be corrupt somehow. What happened was the battery died and when I turned it back on alot of apps crash and I don't get any service. This just started happening a little while ago. I tried restarting the phone but the same thing happens each time. Some apps even crash when I try to start them after clearing out all of the error messages. I really can't seem to get the phone to do much of anything anymore.

com.google.process.gapps
com.android.phone
Google Maps com.google.android.apps.maps


I do have an extended warranty on the phone. What should I do?

We should not call this as dead rather it is more of a software issue. What about hard/factory reset? Have you tried that?
