it is actually just to browse internet, specially websites with flash and maybe skype little bit...
dont care too much about games or gps or anything else...

i just checked on newegg for prices and found a refurbished a500 for $270

what do you guys think i should go for this one??
my doubts comes about buying a refurbished product....
it will be very helpful if u share ur experience with refurbished products and also with this tablet...

This is a great tablet. There is a small issue with the Mic. It is a little muffled.
Only mentioning b/c you brought up Skype. Otherwise...I love it.

I have a refurbished A500 tablet. Other than the lack of the fancy box and a shorter warranty period mine is the same as new. Oh, one other thing lacking, the price of a new one. Any time an item is purchased and returned to the store, even unopened, it is supposed to not be sold as new again but is supposed to be sold as refurbished. It gets checked over to make sure it functions and doesn't have malware installed on it and then cleaned and sold.

I'd say go for it. This tablet is way better than any version of iPad and probebly the best Android tablet available today. I've had mine since the first day they were available and I'm not sorry at all. Just becareful with updates, they can be a nightmare but so worth the trouble.

I bought mine as soon as it was available. No regrets at all! My wife has an iPad, which is nice, but the Iconia is way more versatile.

I also have been looking at this tablet on newegg for the refurbished. Does anyone even still sell it new, or is refurbished the only way to get it?

I like that it has full USB and HDMI (though it needs an adapter).

just to let you know i got that one from newegg and it works without problem..
i dont think it comes with original charger but i dont care, it charges my tablet and it does very fast.

I dont think they still making this tablet to sell it as brand new but there must be some places that still have it on stock or something like this..
    did you google it??

Do you mean for the HDMI? You can actually get micro HDMI to full-sized HDMI (so shouldn't need an adapter):)

I am not a big fan of the original charger, to be honest, so no big loss for you IMO. As a matter of fact, that is my biggest complaint about the A500, the proprietary charge jack. Every other charger in my house is microUSB, why couldn't they go with that.

Because your microUSB is very limited in the amperage it can deliver and the one from Acer can push out waaaay more charge. Do you want to wait a week for your tablet to charge or would you rather be using it today?

I'm not a big fan for a different reason... I can live with the fact that it's not micro USB... it's just a bit of a pain that the cable is only about 2cm long... I mean, come on Acer... it'd be nice to have it plugged in and be able to sit on the sofa, using it whilst it's charging! Don't even want one that is 20 meters... just a couple of meters (1.5 would even do) :)

You could do what I did. I spliced the factory charger with a broken car charger coil cord. Mkaes the recharge cord about 4 feet long when extended. Also if you do that stop by your local Radio Shack, or go onlne and get the multi tip plug and that way you can charge other things with your charger. The tip is the hard one to find but I did find one that works but don't know which one it is.

I don't mess with electrics, but know where you're coming from... I just live with it (I know it wouldn't be too hard to do what you're talking about, but just don't like doing it)

Ok, so A500 vs A200... A500 has both full USB and HDMI, A200 has just full size USB. A500 has two cameras, A200 has one. A500 has same processor as A200.

It seems like the A500 is a lot better. I'd really like to have both full size USB and HDMI from the A500. But I kind of don't want to buy something a whole year older. Thoughts?

    dude i have the a500,
i love my tab so much it literary is an extension of my body i dont leave the house without it i ride through london wandle trails fishing and surfing the net watching youtube or maybe HD movie with the super clear stereo speakers. i can plan in sheer minutes with gmaps where my next spot will be i can also easily log places i find hotspots and return where i would just forget before. i can skype video peeps and use the forums with tapatalk, all while sitting on the banks with a couple of beers :D :D

when i bring out my a500, ipad-slaves simply put they're pad in the bag and walk away. :D

    yo durx!
its to true , i have a 7.1 speaker setup i use for bedroom dj'ing and the actual wire near the jack has begun to split and distort, they say its easy to strip and re-wire these things im assuming it would be the same instance for the charge cable
but im just abit .......errr about cutting and re-attaching wires . especially ..me and especially a power cable lol.........especially my beloved tabby! lmao.

but you are right i just dont get why they made the original cable so short. i did see a while ago someone posted a link to site where you can buy a 3meter? power cable......but once again im non to sure about 3rd party chargers, as HTC i bought recently blew-up , anyone know if acer do an official longer cable?

I know it's not difficult but, as you say, when it comes to my A500, I'd rather not mess around :)

My wife recently got an ipad from a mate who'd upgraded and the charge cable for that is stupidly small too!

I'm sure I've seen them too (maybe even an official one - at an outrageously high price), but I forget where... :(

I have an A500. I am absolutely pleased with it, other than a minor issue that has come up since upgrading to ICS that I am working on solving right now. I will tell you that I've only used the HDMI once or twice... I have a Roku box now hooked up to my TV that gives me just about any online content I might want to see on my television. I have also rarely used the cameras, because I rarely have the tablet with me in a situation where I might want to take pictures. I use my iPhone for quick photos on the go and my digital camera if I want better shots. I think if I wanted to do some video calls (which I never do), I'd probably use my laptop, which is stationary on my desk, rather than trying to hold the tablet and keeping myself in frame.

So, if I were you, I'd go with whatever one you could get for the best price. I do know there are some awesome deals out there on the A500 (and also on the A100, which my step-dad has, which is terrific if you want something in a smaller form... which I sometimes do wish I had!).

Good luck! I know you're going to just love whatever Acer Iconia Tablet you end up with.
