...so i called sprint to complain JUST to hear what they have to say. the lady told me that turning off widgets, apps, pretty much everything would increase the life.

i told her why was such a phone made that can do all these amazing things with such a crappy battery? i obviously paid all that money for it because it can do stuff that my friends phones wish they could do. but in reality i cant use them that much unless i have a full battery beforehand or a charger near me.

am i overreacting or should they have thought about the battery beforehand.

i mean i still love the phone trust me but ive never had a phone that loses so much battery life so fast. ive owned the iphone, mytouch, and many blackberries.

Well she is correct, and you should have known before hand. I read reviews before I buy a new phone.

yea i read reviews i read a lot of reviews and each one the evo was better than the iphone

my battery will die 3 times before my friends iphone 4, what im trying to say is they seriously couldnt make a better battery? ive read about 43,843 threads on here about the crappy battery and how we can do stuff to get more life out of it. paying this much moolah for a phones we shouldnt have to do stuff to get more than 2 minutes of life out of it

The lady is right.. turn off the things you don't need and you will see a big difference. Do you REALLY need Facebook and Twitter updating every 30 minutes?

My phone easily gets me 24 hours of use, and I find it just as useful without 4 full-screen HTC widgets draining the battery.

You are overreacting. Like the discussion with the new phones running gingerbread earlier, battery life is an issue until they improve the tech for it. Keep in mind that you have a 1ghz processor in the phone, added with a bunch of apps that could potentially constantly access the internet and of course your battery is gonna suck.

My suggestion is to only keep what you need on and maybe restrict the access times a bit. I.E. gmail updates every hour instead of every 5 minutes.

if you are getting 4-5 hours of battery idle time, then you probably have an IM app running like google talk or AIM or something... those apps will kill ANY phone's battery life because they are basically constantly using data.

i've got tons of widgets running with push gmail and facebook updates every 2 hours and my battery drops about 1% / hour on idle

how do you change the settings to get facebook or gmail to update in a longer period of time instead of every 5 mins for example?

I think you should just return the phone. I heard the new iPhone 4 is nice.

Really, you called cs to complain about the battery?

Do you call Lamborghini to complain that your Murcielago only get 11 mpg, and only 5mpg if you floor it everywhere.

You dont walk onto a ford dealership and scream "why did not you think of the gas milage when you built the Ford Excursion!!!" Why, over looking the fact that a family of 10 can live permanently in the car with no major problems.

Some people, you just cant reach.

Why in the world would you buy any super phone and expect anything but bad battery life?

    Why?

THE PHONE IS A POWER GUZZLING SUPER MACHINE. it is going to have really bad battery life, and more so when you floor it everywhere.

One strange thing I have noticed is that the phone gives a weird false perception of the battery dying faster than it really does because the 1st 15% or so go sooooo much quicker than the rest.. I will hit 85% quickly.. then it trickles.

Much like the 1st half of the tank of gas in my car according to my gauge will get me around 250 miles and only get another 100 or so off the 2nd half tank....

don't touch the htc mail app. just use the gmail app. you don't need to mess with the settings... you get the emails teh second they're sent to you ('push') and it basically uses no extra battery life.

Reset your phone if you haven't done so. Google what you do and do not need to back up.

I use both and average about 200 emails a day on Exchange push via HTC Mail. I get great battery life.

I was warned by my vendor (Best Buy) about the battery life UP FRONT, so I made the purchase knowing what I was getting into. I also read extensive reviews which foreshadowed the battery life I was going to expect. As of since, I have enabled what I am content with, and disable those which I don't need (e.g. Facebook and Friendstream). I have tried several tricks to improve life here and there (GPRS trick and battery retrain trick) and I am happy with it. I am also happy Sprint offered me 30 days no questions asked to return their product/solution if I am not happy with it. Not everyone is in the same boat and you know what, that is the tough thing about being first to something. You have to deal with the challenges and problems being first comes with. Some like it, others don't.

So I echo the guy above and ask "Is this really a thread??" :)

I agree people should have been nicer. But you can also tell the frustration they are having because of so many of these threads. Having said that searching the forums will give you exceelent tips on how to get great abttery life. I will speak to your question from above though... go to Menu then Settings then Accounts and Sync. In there you can set all your syncing times. I have Facebook set to once per day and unchecked sync timelines. Twitter ever 3 hours, News and Stocks off. Weather every 2 hours. I have quite a few widgets running so you don't really have to get rid of them. Except for Friendstream... it is useless and a battery hog.

My Evo easily gives me around 20 hours per charge cycle. I'm running it with 4 widgets taking up 4 of my homescreens and GPS on and I do give it heavy use. I do also listen to music very often. i am also running auto-brightness and am almost always somewhere bright, causing it to use a lot of battery but im very happy with the battery. I charge it during the day once and am good to for another full day of constant use.

For all those people b1tching about the battery, the battery isn't the problem. It's the phone / software. The Evo has a 1500 mAh battery which is big for a cell phone. It's a bigger battery then any of the IPhones including the IPhone 4.
