ICS and Nexus announcement Delayed!General

Last Updated:

  1. I'm sorry but these are companies out to make money. You think all the investors want them to delay a product because of someone passing? Yes I understand that some may feel that is what needs to be done but if thats the case and it is ok for apple to continue preorders for the 4s why a week later can a company that has nothing to do with apple not unveil a new product? I am still saying it is because ics isnt ready yet.

  3. Maybe now that it is pushed back they will do a release at the same time or a few days later rather than making us wait weeks to be able to order???

I think its decent to wait.. especially if their presentation involved attacking Apple.. but if you insist on a cold calculating reason, then the distraction from the CTIA event from the media coverage on his death would be detrimental to their purposes.

If you have a product that will kick the iPhone 4S out of the news and into the basement you cancel it. It's in bad taste. They obviously have a "weapon" on their hands and to unleash it now is just not good judgement.

Apple lost it's General there's no use bombing them right now. Let them mourn the loss and then resume battle.

Samsung/Google would look bad for running up the score. The delay was the right thing to do.

I have a lot of respect for these 2 Corporations (Google/Samsung) for doing the "right thing" Would Apple do the same? Probably not. But 2 wrongs don't make a right...

So as it looks, and as reported, Steve Jobs was buried today as Red as posted here in this article.

So in that regard I would point the finger at Samsung and Google for using an excuse for a push back...As they're original statement was....We feel that its not the right time for a release? So what they did was use Steves mourning as an excuse. Pretty tasteless IMO being his Funeral was today, if it was Tuesday I'd feel pushing it back would have been the right thing to do. But today is Friday, they're event was not to be held until Tuesday. If ICS and the Nexus are ready, they could have done a small tribute abiut Mr Jobs, and then went along with they're release and business as usual.

As it looks, ICS and our new Nexus must not be ready for Prime Time...So now the wait beginnings...

Right, I think they were expecting fight with iPhone5 and the presentation on Nexus/ICS probably involves some kind of taking jab at Apple. Whether we like it or not, it's not the right timing for them. Especially when iPhone4S is nothing to worry about. I'm fine even if they use this unexpected extra time to polish ICS more for releasing Nexus.

Lol...no way would Apple wait! But the more I read and learned about Steve through the years...he seemed like a very decent Human being.

Though his funeral was today, Tuesday is still too close for that I think. Delaying the announcement by a week or two would be better.

The device must be pretty much ready as there is no way they would have known Steve's passing away this week.

Maybe the presentation compared it to the iphone a lot, and took a lot of jabs at the iphones weaker points.
  11. This is all about making money and has nothing to do with Jobs. Like I said ICS isn't quite ready for prime time thats why they are delaying it since they do not need to rush it.

I'd say Verizon had plans to make the phone official as well.

PR person let this slip today in a CTIA invite: "I know we’re up against the Samsung/Google news and the Verizon announcement"

Seems maybe verizon was going to make an announcement at the supposed tuesday event? Maybe now we wont have to wait as long and will be able to preorder the same day or a day after rather than weeks after it is announced.

Early on I believe early November was thrown about for the launch date of the Prime. Of course we don't know for sure, but if that is the case, they can announce anytime between when they where going to announce and the actual launch date. As long as this doesn't get pushed back to December/Jan, I can believe they did this due to Steve's passing. Although I am an Android guy, I give respect to Google and VZ for pushing out the press event. This is the right thing to do. As much as I dislike Jobs for how he treated his employees, he was a visionary that helped shape PCs, SmartPhones, and Tablets. He deserves this respect. RIP Steve Jobs.

    * Note * I am still not going to buy an iPhone! Nexus Prime all the way for me :)

I think Samsung and Google made the right decision. And about shareholders not wanting to push it back and basically go for the jugular - where is human decency anymore?

I can wait a couple weeks to hear about a new phone when someone as influential in the tech business for over 30 years passes away.

I think everyone is overplaying the "announcement" aspect vis a vis the release of the phone. Most of the sources that members here deem credible have pointed towards Nov 3 as the release date. There was speculation that it may be October 27, but either way all signs point to one of these two dates. My rationale is that as noted in several posts above, iPhone - regardless of what we all seem to agree is inferior hardware and possibly software, is selling out units at all the carriers. Think about it, every time someone signs a new contract they're out of the pool of potential Nexus Prime buyers, regardless of carrier. If you believe the notion that Verizon has the exclusive release it's worse. Each of those other carriers selling iPhones right now are preventing a possible migration to your business. Granted, some of these people may have never considered the NP because they buy anything Apple, but not everyone falls into this category.

The bottom line is this: I always thought releasing the Nexus AFTER the iPhone was a risky strategy because of the ideas noted above. iPhone sold 2.3 million units in the last quarter on Verizon - more than all Android devices combined. The point is that Samsung/Google/Verizon need this phone to be released sooner rather than later. To that point, there's simply zero chance this phone releases Q1 2012, as some have rumored. I'd mortgage my house on that. It's that simple and logical in my mind.
  20. If they wait that long to release it I will buy another phone. No use waiting and waiting since the longer you wait the longer until you can upgrade again.

I agree on this....Hopefully we're not looking at a Bionic replay!
  22. I originally was going to buy the bionic had it come out in july. Then it kept getting pushed back and with other rumored phones right around the corner I was let down once it actually was released. Google needs to get this worked out that is one good thing about the iphone atleast I know it will be updated at the same time and another better phone wont come out 3 weeks later. If they push the prime back past nov sadly I'll be going with the new iphone.

We think alike...The best thing about the iphone is there's no worrying about new Hardware every couple of weeks, and the fact that they don't BS with software updates...its a pretty seamless thing with them. Android on the other hand is the wild west, which can be fun at times, but is getting a little old IMO. The Bionic took forever, and now that its here, tons of people are left to use a phone where the Auto focus can take up to 10 seconds to focus on a pic, and a 4G signal that constantly drops. Other then that phone is pretty good, but push an update out ASAP, or better yet after a 9 month wait those problems shouldn't even exist. I too may decide to grab an iphone 4s, one to support the American economy, and 2 because I use my camera alot, and that camera looks like it may be an industry best once its released. Plus I'm tired of buying new phones every 3 months...its getting a little crazy if ya ask me....lol

Wow, so you guys consider defecting to dark side. I also feel that delayed android updates and phone launches are often frustrating. But I wouldn't go that far. That's just unthinkable for me. To each his/her own, but for me Apple means living in jail their way and Android means freedom though it gets rough at times. I think once Ice Cream comes in full swing on most devices next year, a lot of issues in current android system will be gone.

This delayed announcement / release of a new top of the line android phone is typical Verizon. I think other than the original droid, all others have had delay issues.
