If you could do it over again, would you upgrade to 2.2?

I have been having a lot of problems with my DX. Verizon told me that some of my issues would be solved if my phone were pre-loaded with 2.2 instead of having a phone that was upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2. So they sent me a new phone and told me that it would be pre-loaded with 2.2. When the phone arrived, it had 2.1 on it.

Do I keep the new phone and use it with 2.1? Do I keep the new phone and ugrade it to 2.2 to see if it's better than my old phone. Do I keep my old phone?

If you could do it all over again, would you upgrade to 2.2?

If you are interested, my problem 2 biggest problems are:
    1) My phone doesn't seem to hold a 3g signal. It regularly drops from 3g to 1x and back to 3g. The phone goes 4 bars to 1 bar and back again.
    2) My phone consantly missings emails. You can see the emails in my inbox if I go through a brower, but the email app doesn't show them no matter how many times I refresh.

    Thanks,

    Ken

I wouldn't, I miss 2.1. Some people say its faster but mine isn't and it lags all the time. They disabled task killers and the battery manager no longer works for me so its hard to keep my phone running fast and lag free like it was on 2.1

I might not have. I've yet to really use flash online, what I've tired didn't work (crush the castle 2) or was too slow (google finance chart).
Other than that, the phone (using LPP) seems about the same. Minor cosmetic changes here and there. I don't really notice anything being faster.

The update made my issues with the lock screen(s) even worse - to the point I really can't use bluetooth in my car anymore.

Since new apps are starting to require 2.2, I guess I would have updated at some point.

It's very strange how some people have major problems but others have none, even though we all have the same hardware. 2.2 OTA is working great for me. I had the leak (which worked great), reverted to 2.1 (using ericnail's tutorial) and got the OTA. It's all been very smooth. Sorry you guys are having heartache. :(

It's been established for a long time noe that don't need a task killer to make your phone work and in fact can cause it to do just the opposite. . Google disabled task killers for a reason, that being they are generally not needed and cause more problems than they solve. The fact that they removed the ability should be a BIG clue that they are generally of no use.
    .
I'm sure you've heard it already but here you go again for those that read you post and think they need a task killer or believe they do something beneficial.

I like this link because it tells you why you don't need one and tells you what you really need to be looking out for if your phone is acting up. But if you don't agree with it then goodle "why task killers are bad" and take the day to read all he links you will find.

Android Task Killers Explained: What They Do and Why You Shouldn't Use Them

In general you should find out what app is causing your problem not just kill a bunch of apps that have nothing to do with it.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming. ;)

I've had a couple fc's too, what is up with that? I never had that happen on 2.1. And I'm not sure I like the way the punctuation comes up on the stock texting, the keyboard got changed a bit and I'm not too thrilled with it. I don't see enough change and improvements that I like to have made it worth it - but I doubt that it will remain optional regardless.

Absolutely. The only problems seem app or wifi-router specific. Flash has worked fine, games and HomestarRunner are both good. Sites with embedded youtube and or HEAPS of ads can get bogged down, but overall I'm very impressed with the improvements 2.2 brought.

They "disabled" my battery manager also, does everyone need to stop using that to? I have done two factory resets since I upgraded to OTA 2. 2, the first one I didn't reformat my SD cards and people said that was my problem. The second reset I did reformat it, and only installed LPP and widget locker for two days and still had the lagging. When I first saw the "task killers are the devil" articles I uninstalled it, then my phone reformed like crap and I reinstalled it and my phone ran smooth and fast until OTA 2. 2. You just have to set them up right. How can I tell if a program is defective?

I find that odd also. A lot of people had a software issue with 2.1 with a draped pixel in camera mode, I never had that problem.

I'd definitely upgrade again. I've had zero problems and my phone runs noticeably faster and smoother.

You have to do a little trouble shooting and try to figure out which program is acting up. Your method of using a task killer wasn't the best solution. You simply nuked every application. Clearly it helped with the one application that was acting up, but it didn't help all the other applications. True, the net result was a better performing phone than one running a problem applicaton. But the best result would have been if you simply got rid of the suspect application and let all the other applications run as designed. This would have resulted in even better performance than you experienced.

Using a task killer can help determine which program is the suspect program, but it isn't wise to use as a long term solution. It is better to fixed the cause of the problem by removing the bad application than it is to try and fix the symptoms of the problem by using a task killer long term.

Unfortunately, too many people would simply go with the "easy" fix which was using a task killer instead of finding the core problem and fixing it.

Very happpy with the 2.2 update. Only thing that I didn't like was the minor change to the software keyboard. Hitting period twice in succession used to make a comma, but now you have to long press to bring up the menu. Plus when typing in a web browsers window, used to have a .com button but that's gone now.

Overall, very minor gripes for an update that increases speed, battery life, adds flash and other many useful features.

Same here. I wonder if Motorola built all the phones off of more than 1 manufacturing line. Perhaps one of thier lines had some quality problems. But all I can say is my phone has been completely flawless as far as operation goes.

I don't even get the FC on the battery manager that everyone else seems to get.

Thanks to this forum I'm using a leaked, rooted, deodexed 2.3.15 (Revolution theme) and thus far have had no problems.
If my understanding is correct, since it's not OTA 2.2 I have the option of going back to 2.1.
IMO this is dead on, I've sent back a couple of phones because of varying degrees of quality issues and can attest to slight differences in operational functionality.

Absolutely no problems here with OTA 2.2, rooted, deodexed and themed. No FCs, even on the Battery Manager.

Not sure why you assume I "nuke" every app. I only kill the stock bloat ware because my phone lags when its down to 50-70 mb's of memory and comes to a halt with less than 50. obviously you didn't read my post because it says I had lag before I put all my apps back on my phone, it even lagged when I first got it a little until I got a task killer. I've seen others who have the same problem when memory gets low, and then someone says "no it doesn't, it doesn't work that way" but I know what my phone does, I've had it over a month and I use to use it all the time.
