Yes as the title says. Why? Let me explain. When sony released the x10, they released it with 1.6 saying that it would have multi touch when 2.1 came out. This obviously turned out to be a lie. But imagine if sony released it with 2.1, then no one would buy it because then you can't lie about multi touch being or not being there or else sony would get a lawsuit up their ass. Sony knew from the start that mt would not be in this phone but instead they played their little game of maybe, maybe not.

So I would like to see your opinions on this people. These are just my 2 cents

You might be right about this reflection but one question gets up in my mind everytime somebody gets upset about the feature we're not going to get: why MT is so important other than the fact that apple has it and it might be cool to have it
Why is mt that an issue and whats the use of it other than for few games and zooming text/maps?

I completely understand why people are getting so screwed up about this issue - mt is probably not that important to a lot of people ,its completely unimportant to me other than the fact that the phone was drastically reduced in value the minute the announcement was made ,what is important is that people don,t like being lied to or misled and especially if its to releive you of a lot of hard earned cash

Its not the fact that its important or not, its more of the principle of sony lieing to us. What adds on, is why should i pay the same amount of money when im not getting the complete futures. You know what i mean. If for the same money i could get android 2.2 with multi touch, why not get it, rather than paying the same amount of money, for less features.

Including ram, and the amount of colors it should get via update. I wonder if there is a law you could use against them. Cuz i really want to give this phone back, and get a good phone like the droid x or evo.

Multi touch actually plays a big role... if you don't have it coupled with a virtual keyboard that enables multi touch input (as we do on the Evo) text messaging or typing in general on the phone is flat out miserable and annoying. It mis-reads left and right, and you're forced to trot along at 1/4 of the speed you really can achieve.

Games, again. Seeing as this phone is like the Evo, and has great hardware, why would a game on it be an issue? Well, for one, you have no hardware keyboard to map buttons to, and are forced to use on-screen controls. Alright, no biggie, wait, no, biggie. You can't really play anything aside from either a cheap MMO or text-based game unless you have multi touch, as I've yet to see many a game that actually are based around one button inputs at a time.

Web browsing. Yes, being able to operate your phone one handed is a plus over having to hold with one hand and pinch with the other, but, when you DO have the time to sit and browse, you're most likely holding it and using your free hand to browse and motion across the pages. Multi touch in this instance makes web browsing STUPID easy and fast. If you're on the go, I prefer the tap to zoom buttons on screen. The thing is, multi touch here would, again, make things much better and flow smoothly.

Having multi touch enabled on this phone, or any touch screen phone with the capability, isn't because we want it like the iPhone, Merolas, it's because it makes things easier to do on the phone. Isn't that the ultimate goal when making something like these? It's got tons of potential for the code monkey and hacker groups out there, but if you take it out the box, as 90% of consumers do, it should be one of the most straight forward and simple to operate things out there. If it ends up being annoying to use, lacking things that we find normal on most, and overall VERY basic and stripped down, why would anybody want it? I can tell you this much, if the Evo, when it was released, didn't have 720p video recording and the front facing camera was disabled until an update in the 'near future' was put out, I would probably shy away from it. Those are a few things that I was actually looking forward to. Then, if they came out and said, "Well, we really couldn't find that many uses in our opinions, so we've decided to disable them for this device.", I can GUARANTEE you the only people going to buy the phone would be mis-informed customers that have never watched or browsed anything tech related. Even then, they would see the flaws with their brand new, shiny device, and more than likely return it for something else that actually performs as advertised. For the literal minded here, that will take what I'm saying as exact, with things like, "Well the x10 doesn't HAVE a front facing camera, and we're supposed to get 720p video recording.... you're a big dummy head.", I'm not relating it directly to that. I'm simply giving it something to compare to in a fantasy similar situation. The phone is 100% capable of doing what it's been claimed NOT to be able to do, and yet the company who produces it is still willing to shit all over their name for the sake of laziness, and not wanting to provide support for their products.

I CAN say this from reading up on this sub-forum and reading around about the whole x10 line, I will NEVER buy a Sony smart phone, whether it be Android, some generic crap one, Windows Mobile, or whatever new mobile OS comes. Just like Samsung, they seem to love to piss people off and cripple their devices purposefully before half a years time passes. That right there, is reason enough for not a single soul to want anything they make.

In short from what I'm feeling after all that, the x10 would be the perfect phone for someone who enjoys light web browsing (nothing really vigorous, spending an hour or two would considered a bit long here), sending text messages, getting email, light facebook integration, and a varied degree of multimedia use and playback.

This phone COULD have been more than what it's being reduced to, but that's just how some companies like their stuff. Dreamer devices.

    +1

So the main point about the issue is not the performance of the phone, it's more about the fact that Sony released wrong informations to (future) now owners of that high-end phone that not so high-end after all

I'm also very disappointed it doesn't have multi touch. The fact it doesnt have Android 2.1 is one thing, I can actually live with that but, I'm finding I do need multi touch. For me, pinch to zoom on the browser is far easier than tapping in and out on the zoom buttons.

Also I like to play games on my phone to pass the time. I cant even use the GBA emulator (or others i'm sure) to their full potential. I cant run and jump at the same time on Sonic, I have to run...then stop running, press jump and then quickly go back to the arrow key to make Sonic jump onto a platform. On my partner's HTC Desire, it was so easy to play and very enjoyable. And that's just one example.
Most things I do, don't need it but, could be greatly enhanced with MT and other things, definitely need it.

You bought a handset with Android 1.6 that had no multi touch so why were you expecting it to have 2.1 and multi touch.

Did you not read the box before buying

sucks that there's no mt and probably never will be, but you may be forgetting that x10's got enough spare buttons to bind :)

as long as you can be arsed to change the media volume in settings (quick widgets ) you'll find you've got 4 buttons at your disposal, i've been using psx4droid with no real problems, if anything its more comfortable playing with finger buttons rather than thumbing in on both hands because my hands are huge :p

but yeah the whole no multitouch and the fact the camera isnt being utilised properly (hd capable but not right now, no auto camera flash) just says how daft SE is, no doubt when they finally put on 2.1 they'll boast a rise in sales, do you really think its taken them this long to correct issues that should have been sorted before launch? hells no.

what SE is doing is adding bonuses to the original product in order to extend its lifespan, which is a pretty standard business technique, microsoft have been doing it for years with the xbox 360. the problem is that whereas most products are at the expected standard prior to launch, SE has started off with a phone with major flaws and decided to fix them when they need a sales boost

Yes, amongst hundreds of other threads on this subject and across various forums.

Comments on the SE blog cannot be classed as an official statement.

Yes, please see powerkiter's thread on this (http://androidforums.com/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10/139310-so-sony-lied-about-multi-touch.html) rather than everyone having to rehash this all over again.

With that said (because I know this thread will live on)...

At the release of the X10 (the day it went on sale and after... anything before that is moot as no-one spent a dime yet buying an X10), SE had clarified that the X10 would never get MT as the hardware was incapable of it.

    So there goes your argument.

I'm not happy with SE as they're taking far too long to get 2.1 to the X10, especially when they should really be going straight to 2.2. However, I'm also logical and realistic, and won't place blame where it doesn't belong.

Be unhappy if you want. But don't try to blame SE because you decided to get an X10 based on rumor of a feature they had already stated didn't exist (and never would). Do your research!

I did do my research buddy. Se also claimed to bring 16 million colors to the x10 but they aren't.

OK then. Provide proof of any official statement from SE made the day of the X10's first release or after, stating that the X10 will ever get multi-touch in the future.

As for the lack of 16M colors... since 2.1 isn't out yet, give me some proof this isn't coming?

I ain't going to be wasting my time trying to find something that I ain't the only one complaining on. As for the 16 mill colors I don't remember where I read it. The while thread was made on the fact of th os being old. I don't know why your bringing up the multitouch.

    SMILE!

it doesnt mention a source but this and another site seem to be convinced there has been a commitment to give 2.2 before the end of the year :)

I'd be happy for my phone right now but for some reason my internets been funny all day, showing 3g while not connecting and now showing no g or 3g at all :(

    sadface.

    How convenient.

I'm sure people who believe the world is flat would sympathize with your reasoning.

You may have read the lack of 16M color support in 2.1 over on XDA, where someone who had a chance to play with an early 2.1 X10 build was commenting about it and posting answers to questions. He mentioned that it didn't appear to have 16M color support when asked... but it should be noted that he was playing with an early 2.1 build, one that is more than likely not feature complete. Unless SE comes out and states that 2.1 won't bring 16M colors, or 2.1 is released to the public without it, it's still something that is expected based on SE's prior comments.

Are you for real? You brought up SE's "lie" about adding MT support in 2.1 in the OP. That's why I'm mentioning it.
