I just got my first Android phone, a galaxy note, a few days ago. I come from an iPhone so I'm used to the concept of messages from apps, including email, messaging apps, etc, popping up on screen to give me a notification of some recent important event. I'm trying to figure out how to have my phone notify me when I get an email message. With the gmail app and the default settings I'm using right now, the only notification I get is a barely audible sound, and irregularly at that (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't). If I look in the notifications bar, I can see the alert, but it doesn't jump out at me - I have to go and look at my notifications to see that I have a new email, etc. Ideally, in addition to a consistent and noticeable sound/vibration, I would like it or a preview to pop up on the screen briefly (including popping up on the lock screen if I'm not using the phone). Is there anything that can accommodate this? If not the native gmail app than perhaps another app? Something similar for skype, line, SMS, facebook etc would also be nice, but I suppose I'll start with email, unless there's an easy way to get them all set up with one app or setting.
