So how many people who read about the froyo update that will be available tomorrow went and checked to see if it was one available already. Come on tell the truth. I did even though I know I have to wait, but in the back of my mind I was hoping for it to be there.

For those jumping to be the first to have it just remember the bricked phones from the last OTA. Everyone jumped on it early and it was a disaster! I say wait a few days and see how it's working first!

I'm gonna guess they tested it this time. So, you can wait...I'm getting it tomorrow, but I'll let you know how it goes...next week sometime

I am aware of the slight chance of bricking even though the last update went perfectly smooth for me.

I'm not going to be able to resist checking in the morning though.

I did the pta and didn't have any issue, also did it with the wife phone no issues either, the point I was trying to make is I went to see if I could download the froyo update early, even though it Wont be available till tomorrow, just looking at the humor in my impatience

Riiight because the last update was the first ever OTA update they put out...it was a learning curve. You don't think they tested that one too?

    Early adopters = Beta testers

If you got the cash to replace a bricked phone then go for it. After the last fiasco my trust in HTC/Sprint and they're programmers went way down!

I don't know, but it did brick some phones.

Bricked Phones = Lost Revenue...the more bricked phones, the more lost revenue.

Unless Sprint really, really likes to lose money, I'm betting they fixed it.

But I admit..I could be wrong.

LOL, that's what I'm saying. I think it's funny we still are checking.

This thread was just about how many people checked for the update. Just trying to see the humor, not about bricking phones.

I checked my phone as soon as I read Engadget article and that was before Sprint official press release saying you can manually download it.

    You never know...

Come on people, didn't we learn anything from the last OTA update? Why are so many of you waiting so anxiously to be Sprint's beta testers? All we need now are for these boards to be filled up with "OMG my phone is bricked, or I shouldn't have updated now what? Do some due diligence and wait until Sprint works out the kinks on their end before upgrading.

Read between the lines people. Read the second to the last bullet!

    "For a TEST BED..."

EVO 4G getting Android 2.2, loads of new features and fixes tomorrow? - Engadget Galleries

I'll wait for the rest of you to update and *beta* test to see if Sprint will release on Aug 3rd or not. Even then, I'll stay away.

If you manually update, "Valla con dios!"

I didn't have a single problem last time, though some did. Sprint found the problem and fixed it. I'll let you know how it goes. Your welcome!

I was lucky that that they pulled the update out before I could even update. Didn't have an issue. I guess I'll do what the OP will be doing. Wait for others to acknowledge that the update is okay before updating myself.

Hah...took me a sec to see what you were saying...yes, everybody got their first update when they got their phone (at least the ones that bought the first week after it's release).

Plenty of people did the last OTA update without issues. I did it soon as it showed up on my screen and had zero problems. Then again I don't check for updates again after applying one and see what happens when I apply it a 2nd time :D

I'll try the manual update later today after it's released. Not worried about it breaking my phone. Worst case I switch my ESN back to my old phone until I get a replacement. Certainly not the end of the world. Best case I am running Froyo while people sit on the sidelines waiting to see if they should upgrade.

THISSSSSSSS. THIS IS WHY PEOPLES PHONES GOT BRICKED. Because they were dumb to do the update again, which is what caused the bricks. Not just doing it the first time.

    Yeah. No.

I don't think I'd want to try that with The Almighty.

Besides, I don't know what you're so worried about.

People are being pretty clear about guinea pigging themselves for this one.

I think they get it - but it's good that you're looking out for people.

    Vaya con Dios, compadre.

Because they updated a second time before the whole installer was fixed so that you could do that and not suffer.

As far as them being dumb, that's a little harsh isn't it?

A lot of them were told they had an update - so they took it. Then it said to update again - so they did.

I don't know how many times I've stood and watched the typically stoopid Windows machine go through that kind of update cycle, back in the day.

So, if users have been to taught to act this way, blame Microsoft.

That there was an installation defect last time around - blame Sprint.

But I just don't think we get to write the users off as stoopid on this one, at least not independently so - it was a learned behavior, taught by the biggest OS vendor in the world.

    Not pebkac.

My wife isn't very tech savvy. She loves her evo but if it told her to update it twice she probably would have. Does that make get stupid? No.

Some people would just trust that sprint knew what it was doing with the updates.
