How do I get back to 1.22.605.2 without rooting? Is it possible? I have never rooted the phone but installed the interim leaked OTA from July that enabled HotSpot and 720 with new splash screen but now I can't install the 2.2 Update.zip. Any help would be appreciated.

Well the thing is, i'm not rooted. This was a signed update.zip that enabled a few of the 2.2 features but it was still 2.1 rom. I have never rooted the phone ever. II'm not against it but i'm confused by all the language and what exactly I need to do to get back to stock so I can upgrade to 2.2 by the Update.zip.

    Now I'm confused!
How did you flash a rom (I am assuming) without Root? The Update.Zip floating around is the 2.2 update. What did you install that only gave you some 2.2 features?

Not busting either Tech, just very confused!

It was the leaked OTA update.zip that came out in the middle of the michael weston fiasco. It was supposed to be 2.2 according to Michael and then ended up being an update to 2.1 that gave the Droid Splash screen start up with the swirling features, it gave 720P video, Hotspot, and a new email widget for HTC and the news widget from HTC. Somebody got it and posted it on here and I took the plunge along with a few others. It installed just like the 2.2 is supposed to, but now it's keeping me from updating to 2.2 because I have the wrong software version for updating. You guys must remember this leak when it came out because Michael changed the threads to mean this leak instead of 2.2 back on July 16.

Edit: I think it was posted in the Michael Weston thread.

Right, but this is for Rooted phones, mine isn't rooted. I have a leaked signed rom upgrade that I can't downgrade from like a rooted phone. This would be like loading the OTA from Verizon and trying to go back to 2.1. If you were not rooted when you went to 2.2 how can you get back to 2.1? I'm on an interim rom change that I can't get back to stock 2.1. I have never rooted my phone, I used an Update.zip for this interim Rom upgrade and need to get back to the May OTA update so I can upgrade to 2.2 with the update.zip

Tech can you post up the link for that file you downloaded. Also do you need to change that to say update.zip or PB31IMG.zip?

You can only get so far with the second video and then it fails. Appears you need the 'custom recovery' which I only have stock. I don't understand what to do next. I've read something or another about unrevoked but it's not clear. If I need to root the phone just to get 1.36.605.0 off the phone, then I shit out of luck. I've never been able to get root.

Any suggestions or knowledge on what custom recovery is and where to load it from?

Tech, did the RUU fix your problem?

I only ask because I'm in the same boat.

    I have the 2.05 radio(baseband) with the 1.36.605.0 software

Haven't seen any rock solid way to go with this, since we're not actually rooted...everything is saying to root the phone to downgrade...

meh, i'll just wait a bit to see what comes out of this

Well first your gonna need to make your phone unrooted and with stock recovery. I used this guide to do it (http://androidforums.com/incredible...ideo-howto-unroot-incredible-downgrading.html)

But than you run into the problem of having a software number of 1.22.605.0, when you need 1.22.605.2 to use update.zip. That is where this guide comes in: Getting your phone ready for the FroYo update.zip! - xda-developers

That will get your phone to 1.22.605.2 so you can use the update.zip to get your phone running Froyo.

rygvas, that's the issue, we're not rooted right now.

this was a regular update.zip just like the OTA zip for the 2.2 release.

I'm going to run the RUU tonight since I have everything I really need backed up. I'll post back with my results.

FWIW the RUU is a wipe, so you will lose any data you have on the phone. It should not wipe your SD card though, so you can use a program like astro file manager to back up programs and things like that.

You shouldn't need to be rooted. HBoot, which is there rooted or not, should automatically load the PB31IMG.zip (which you get from this video: http://androidforums.com/incredible...ideo-howto-unroot-incredible-downgrading.html), which would get you to stock 2.1 when you got the phone, or in other words 1.22.605.0. You can then load update.zip from the May OTA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7933281), which gets you to 1.22.605.2, and then do update.zip for Froyo, which is the same as the OTA.

I am almost positive that you do not need root to install the PB31IMG.zip, because it does not use recovery.

hrm, good to know, I'll go that route if the RUU doesn't want to work with my phone as is.

The way I'd understood it, you needed to be rooted to do the downgrade.

Regardless, I'd rather have a fresh wipe than stacking updates and downgrades and updates

you can't flash the 2.1 ruu with the first ota leak as the hboot will give you an error.

you either have to root or if all you want is 2.2 you should be able to flash the 2.2 ruu.
