Interesting. The 'low light' option seems to work well. I had tried using the HDR setting for night shots, and they weren't that great. will give this low light mode a try soon.

i was at my grandparents house helping with yard work when i noticed this little guy on a twig. he is maybe 1/4 wide.

i am really digging how clear the close up option is!

Images are looking quite impressive, especially the low-light stuff. It cannot be overstated how poorly most cell phone cameras handle indoor low-light situations.

You have 3 issues here that I can see, one is the shutter speed is slow because of the indoor lighting, and you are getting camera motion blur. You can tell this because nothing is really sharp in whole frame. Second, the baby is moving, which causes subject motion blur. Though the hands are obvious, a slight movement of the head will cause the face to blur out slightly. I am not 100% sure the face blurred like that, but it would make sense as the baby does look to be moving around quite a bit. Both of these are fixed with a faster shutter speed, which you can achieve with more lighting or a higher ISO setting. In a pinch you can also deliberately underexpose and raise the exposure back up in post-processing.

Last but perhaps most important, I believe the camera missed the focus in this shot. Babies' smooth faces and round heads are notoriously problematic for contrast-detecting camera focusing. These cameras are looking for areas of contrast with sharp lines, that's how they figure out the focus. So naturally it is more likely to pick up on your very contrasty chair and the strong lines and contrast of the wall behind. The focus appears to have locked on the wall.

If you pick a focus point on the baby's face, you are almost assuredly going to get a misfocus. What you want to do is look for something else with stronger contrast on the same focal plane as the rounded face, in this image I would say to look at the baby's shirt sleeve or the collar area. Select focus there and you should get the face areas in focus also.

Any pictures you take (as long as they're not inappropriate ;)) are definitely good enough to post here!

Since I haven't taken many dynamic shots (low light, action, etc...) I decided to try the low light feature. My OG Evo actually took fairly good night shots similar to the one I posted here but it tended to not over expose artificial lighting as much. I haven't had much success with the HDR feature yet because there's movement in the shots i've been taking. It does make for interesting photos though.

I'll try some other really 'low' light scenes and see how they work.

The phone being on the big and thin side, I was really nervous about dropping it into the drink. I'm hoping a TPU case will help as it did the EvOG.

The f2 aperture does make a difference, I've taken many shots like this with my EvOG and the background doesn't blur this much. It's not a huge amount but it does help.
