First of all, I love my incredible, but I'm afraid my in-call volume is very low. I've turned the rocker all the way up, and it's still very low. Speaker works great on the other hand. Anyone else having these issues, or maybe mine's just low?

Mine is kinda low as well. There is an option to magnify the sound under settings, but I'm afraid it will drain the battery more

Really? I see it as the total opposite. You might want to get that checked out.

Mine is usually too loud, if anything. I usually wind up having to turn it down in the middle of conversations.

Well, damn.... What to do now... Any type of warranty considering I've had it for two days?

Anyone heard of others having the issue? Wondering how rare this is.

Good news here. Reset to factory defaults and my incall volume is now much much better.

This seems to be working for alot of people who were having "low volume" problems. App issue maybe?

I'm sitting here talking on my incredible and my phone's ear speaker is distorting the other person is so loud... I've turned it down all the way repeatedly hoping it will go lower...

No app for this? They NEED to fix this unless it's just my phone (doesn't sound like it is). I don't remember turning the in call volume UP for any reason since I got it, just want to always turn it down more. I dont want everyone in the room listening to my calls sometimes.

Yeah, if anything mine is too loud. Call quality is superb, but even on the lowest volume, it's still a bit deafening at times.

I have the same problem as the original poster -- my in-call volume is pretty quiet, even on the loudest setting. Do I really have to reset to factory defaults to fix this? I think it's been like this since day one, when it, errr... arrived from the factory.

I'm assuming the factory defaults reset we're talking about is Settings->Privacy->Factory data reset. Is that right? I don't want to have to go through all the setup of e-mails and install all my apps again. Any other ideas/solutions? This is annoying...

+1 for too loud. Even turned down all the way my l phones volume is waaaay too loud. For what it's worth, I'm also having the audio problem that some others are having... Received call quality is scratchy and short words or softly spoken words get cut out completely.

huh, mine is very low even on the highest setting. Guess I need to reset to factory. err how exactly does one accomplish the reset? - don't have my phone on me at the moment.

EDIT - Never mind I see how to reset it from the previous post...

It def improved the volume, but a far cry from deafening. But for what it's worth, I nearly doubled the output, so I'd say its worth the hassle or setting everything back up...

Looks like this issue is due to the "Hearing aids" option under "Settings->Call" that was enabled by default on my unit (doesn't mean it's an HTC factory setting, just one that Verizon enables). When it's enabled, it seems to override the in-call volume button completely in order to reliquish control to a hearing aid (I'm guessing here). Once I disabled this, I was able to change the in-call volume level, with the loudest option being more than sufficient.

I too have a problem that the in call volume is too loud. Turning it down all the way doesn't lower it enough. In fact I can sort of use it as a low speakerphone.

On a related note, I had a blackberry previously and was able to have separate volumes for in call and speaker phone. If you on one or the other then the controls would change that particular one. Not so with the Incredible. If you're on speakerphone and change the volume, it changes the in call volume as well.

Maybe I shouldn't be posting this on this thread, but I also have two other problems and I'm wondering if anyone else has the same.
A half dozen times since I got the phone, I was unable to drag down the bar to answer a call.

two or three times, I wasn't able to change to speaker while in a call.

    I'd appreciate any help.

Every time I answer a call, the in-call volume is automatically set to the highest level. I'll manually bump it down two or three notches and it sounds fine, but then it goes right back to maximum volume for the next call. I've been through the menus, and I can't seem to find anywhere to adjust the default in-call volume. Little help?

Hey everybody. I found a solution to my in-call volume being too low... luckily before I did a full system reset. The hearing aid option was turned on and disabling it solved the issue for me. Go to Settings, then Call and make sure the Hearing aid option is not selected.

I also have a problem with the earpiece being too loud even at the lowest setting. This happens only sometimes though, and when it does, the other person's voice sounds tin-ny, slightly crackley, and almost loud enough that it seems like the phone's on speakerphone mode.

If this describes your problem, I found a temporary fix. When you're on the call, turn your speakerphone on, put the volume all the way to the top, and then turn speakerphone off. This should fix the problem. Then you can turn down the volume to where it's most comfortable for you. So far I've only tried this on two separate occasions and it's worked both times.

Hopefully a future OS upgrade will fix this. It's my only complaint with the HTC Incredible.

Also I looked for an app to fix this and couldn't find anything. I tried a program called Quick Settings but it didn't do anything for me.

I just turned ON the hearing aid option and the volume went way down. Previously it was way too loud even on lowest setting. I just rebooted the phone, and turned off the hearing aid option. Next call I'll try the speaker phone volume work-around.

Don't know if anyone cares for the play by play but here is what I've seen.

I have too much volume - loud enough that the speaker distorts. I tried switching to speaker phone and then back again. I tried the hearing aid option (which worked, turn it on and the volume comes down - but this doesn't work mid call).

Today, with the hearing aid option off, I was in a call and it was too loud. I turned it all the way UP to try for my own interest to use the in ear speaker as the speaker phone speaker. To my surprise the volume never went up, but the slider did. So I turned it back down. That seemed to recalibrate things - the volume went down to a listenable level....

I'm going to remove Audio Manager (which I have so I can lower the volume of the key tones in the phone app). Maybe Audio Manager is messing things up....

Like mjbiren, I too was having the same problem, with my Incredible, of the in call volume being too loud and my speaker was distorting so this is what I did to fix it - I followed his instructions, but here is a "play by play" of what I did.

I turned on the hearing aid option (which helped a little) and turned the phone off then back on, then turned the hearing aid option off, then (while calling my very patient husband several times to test) turned the in call volume all the way up then all the way down several times, then turned the speaker on and turned the volume all the way up then all the way down several times which seemed to recalibrate just as it did for mjbiren.
I do not have Audio Manager or any other application like it and (fingers crossed) so far so good, but I will let you know if anything changes!!

Thanks mjbiren for posting, you are a lifesaver!!!
