It looks like Sprint is going to partner with Clear (Clearwire) in Orlando, Daytona, Tampa (and other areas).
I am hoping they don't expect us to buy an additional plan in these areas to receive 4g.
Anyone have intel on that? Here is a chat session that I had with Clear online...
Hello Bill. Please wait while we find a CLEAR specialist to help you.
Your question is: Can you please tell me about the 4g relationship with Sprint for 4g on sprint mobile phones in the Daytona Area?
You have been connected to Joseph Jefferies.
Joseph Jefferies: Hello Bill!
Bill: Hi
Joseph Jefferies: I would be happy to assist you today!
Bill: Thanks!
Joseph Jefferies: I see you have some questions about our 4G service?
Bill: Yes
Bill: Can you please tell me about the 4g relationship with Sprint for 4g on sprint mobile phones in the Daytona Area?
Joseph Jefferies: Sprint is one of our main partners, we use our 3G service through their towers in those areas.
Bill: What about 4g?
Joseph Jefferies: Our 4G service is Clear, also uses Sprint's towers but on a higher frequency (2.5Ghz) which is completely secure because our company purchased the licensing rights to that frequency.
Bill: So, if I have sprint and an EVO (4g phone), will I have to buy additional services to get 4g in the Daytona area?
Bill: Meaning, will I have to purchase a plan from Clear to receive 4g?
Joseph Jefferies: Well I would imagine you could use sprint's towers for service where ever they have coverage, as for the 4G I would have to research for you, Could you please wait while I gather the information?
Bill: Yes, thanks!
Joseph Jefferies: With your 4G phone, can you already access WI-If connections?
Joseph Jefferies: Wi-Fi**
Bill: Yes....at home and whereever there is a free spot to do so.
Bill: IT has 4g radio as well.
Bill: So I have WiFi, 3g, and 4g capabilities on the phone
Joseph Jefferies: Great! Your phone just needs one missing piece to connect to our 4G Clear network. ClearSpot.
The agent is sending you to Clear Spot | Personal Mobile Internet Hotspot | Clear.com.
Joseph Jefferies: There you go!
Joseph Jefferies: Not only can you connect your phone to our 4G service, you can connect up to 8 other devices to the ClearSpot
Bill: That's not what I am asking....I have a 4g radio. It is being advertised that sprint will be providing 4g access in Daytona through Clearwire. The phone I have has a 4g radio and is a 8 device hot spot built in
Joseph Jefferies: Oh so your phone has the same capability as our ClearSpot! Nice! As for Sprints promotions or new plans with Clearwire, I apologize I have no information on that.
Bill: Thanks!
Joseph Jefferies: Is there anything else I can assist you today Bill?
Bill: No, Im just trying to understand how Sprint is going to partner with Clear to provide 4g in our area. Sounds like they are going to reciprocate with Clear
Joseph Jefferies: You are always welcome to check our Clear.com Forums for updated information possibly regarding this new transition.
