I'm doing a bit of international travel next week.

Just got off the phone with VZW. The woman on the other end of the line told me that, even when internationally roaming, calls are free. Not free except for data...free-free. as in you don't get charged. Even over 3G (duh, since it doesn't work over wifi).

I don't think that she was right. Can anyone confirm this? I would have much less trouble believing this if skype were enabled with wifi.

i already did, but it doesn't say anything about international roaming-just outbound international calls.

i'm not worried anyway- i've got gizmo5 and GV set up to use wifi so i'll have the radio off the whole time.

skype tutorial... it has videos explaining all the features, and it seems you need skype credit before making international calls

And the mobile app only works on the dometic CDMA system: it doesn't use 3g. From the phone it's like a rgular call but no minutes are used. Really, it's an added feature for people to talk to friends and loved ones outside the U.S. without the need to sit at a computer. It also makes international calls less expensive.

Fring & Truphone both work with Skype over 3g. When I travel back to the US next year I will use one of these.. unless Skype gets off its a$$ and makes a worthwhile app.
