Hello guys,

This is my first post, and I don't really know all the lingo used on these forums. I'm pretty lost.

A couple years ago I bought the HTC Eris, and then I ended up losing my job and having to cancel my phone plan. The phone sat for a long time until the other day when I realized I could use the WiFi. I was searching for an application that might allow me to place calls through the internet. Does anybody know of something like that?

I found one called talkatone on the internet, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.talkatone.android&hl=en but it says that I need Android 2.2 or higher.

I looked into that and found this guide on these forums: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/127861-universal-eris-root-dummies-20.html

but I don't know what rom to download. All the links are expired.

I guess I have two questions.

1. Anybody know how that talkatone app works? It's not even available on the android market. Would I have to upgrade to 2.2 in order to be able to see the app on the market?

2. What rom would you recommend I use? Like I said, I'm completely new to this and don't really know what I'm doing. I can follow instructions though.

Thanks guys.

I just joined the forum and saw your post hasn't been answered. I'm using a program called nettalk on my 2.1 phone. It is on the market and free to register/use. Works ok on wifi, but there is some delay. Can't help with the rooting part because that is what I came here to learn more about myself.
