Help Internet Connection

Hi Could anyone help me with a problem with my SE Xperia 10. I could not get on the net whilst at football, no 3G symbol. That might have been how i left it but my friend sat next to me with a very old phone got the net straight away? any ideas

I had similar today sitting at the cinema, next to my husband on his bloody iphone who had perfect 3g. Grrrr. Is this because of a bug in the R2BA026 update? My 3g does seem to come and go so if anyone has any pointers on how to solve it - I'm all ears (I cannot be out done by an old iphone - please!)
