Andorid makers need to step up the game, as the new iPhone is very good, reading about the iPhone 4 right now (WWDC, Steve Job keynote) i was really amazed, i don't own any apple product and i don't like apple close system.

    but:

    • 960x640 (326ppi) IPS Display with 800:1 contrast ratio
    • Long battery life (7 hours talk, 6 hours 3G browsing, 10 hours WiFi browsing, 10 hours video & 40 hours music.)
    • A4 chip (as i understand it's really the main reason of the long battery life now offered)
    • 3 axis gyro ( i didn't see that one coming), a gyro+accelerometer+compass=six axis aware device (The wood demo is really WOW)
    • 5MP camera (larger sensor) + 720P HD video @ 30FPS + LED flash
    • iOS 4!

For me, more resolution is always better (and since the limit of the human eye ~= 300ppi) , all mobile phone should have a minimum of 300ppi.

The new Gyro is a welcome move, as i always wanted my phone to senses when i rotated flat on a table. this will not only be great from game, but imagine Google earth with six axis awareness.

The A4 and the longer life was expected, but nice move Apple .

The camera was screaming for an update and the HD recording is a nice touch.

I still preffer FroYo to iOS4 ... but iOS4 is really amazing with loads of new features.

iPhone was behind in terms of the hardware, but not any more.

This is still behind next to the Samsung Galaxy S over 300ppi is pointless the human eye won't notice anyway plus all that trouble and they leave the screen size at 3.5" Lol! 4" Super Amoled is gonna own.

I'm not gonna do side by side features but lets say the latest android phones are still far better and if i was in America i would be going for the EVO over this.

Yeh, and having an iphone4 on AT&T its like having a Ferrari on a quicksand road. **Epic Fail**

100,000 Android phones are being activated every week.

Google HAS stepped up their game.

No one seems to remember the Betamax vs. VHS battle.

Sony owned Betamax, and refused to license it to anyone else. And JVC owned VHS, and licensed it to everyone. VHS killed Betamax. Android is free, and is being launched practically everywhere. It's free, unlike Windows OS, and isn't trapped on AT&T.

Wait a few days for the hype to subside and re-read what you've written.

iPhone 4 isn't revolutionary in any way. It's just a hardware update, and the differences over something like the Evo 4G or Incredible aren't very big. The screen is beautiful, but I doubt it's so good that people with one of the newer AMOLED devices will feel shafted.

Overall, it's good hardware, that in 6 months will be the norm.

Nope still behind... Sure little more res, but smaller screen. A4 proc. can only go to 1ghz which will prob be under-clocked. 5mp camera single flash vs Evo 8mp dual flash. Longer battery life, but single non-replaceable battery.

    OH! and no kickstand! lol

    video chat....only on WiFi
    3.5" screen :(
    Locked down :(
    Real world battery life unproven
Resolution is pointless on a 3.5" screen

The only thing I really liked was the quality of the 720 recording...that's about it. ATT ruins the device...it doesn't matter what kind of features it has.

The iPhone 4 screams "catch-up phone" to me.

iOS4 is not "revolutionary." I cannot think of one innovative feature. Think about it:
    • Multitasking -- Pseudo multitasking; not on par with Android or Web OS (which does multitasking better than anyone else)
    • App Folders -- o_O.
    • New Mail App -- Unified Inbox. o_O
    • Custom backgrounds -- Wow, now I can do what I could do on my old flip phone from 2002. Innovation.
    • iAds -- Apple's newest innovation, an in house advertising system. Good for developers, doesn't matter to anyone else.

    I don't get how iOS4 is amazing.

I'm glad to see the A4 being used in the new iPhone, but otherwise I'm not really very impressed.

Only Apple fanboys are going to claim this phone is a "game changer". It is a needed update for a platform that was getting left behind.

reading the keynote it has done nothing for me, its still un-customizable and its a needed os upgrade but nothing special. My upgrade is still going to be from Blackberry to Android :D

I dont necessarily think that's the best comparison, considering Betamax was a more superior way of recording.. It had better quality than VHS.. But, I digress ;)

Yes, the iPhone 4 does look pretty interesting. And some of those specs are pretty impressive. However, you should remember a couple of things before you start thinking the grass is greener on the other side.

This is the next "top-of-the-line iPhone" that will be around for a full year. Right now, yes, it's impressive in its screen resolution, its gyro, its front-facing camera.

However, will it still be as impressive when these specifications start cropping up (some already have like the front-facing camera) in Android phones within a couple of months? Who knows what the spec sheets will look like on phones coming out in 8-9 months from now. Just like with the iPhone 3GS - It was ahead of the game when it first came out... But after about 7-8 months, it was dated.

This also has to do with the A4 chip. Yes, it seems to help with great battery life, etc, but it's proprietary, and again, wont be refreshed for another full year. Let's say it has the processing power of a 1GHz snapdragon, or heck, even a 1.2GHz... In 6 months? Dated.

Ok, IMO, kickstand is really a stupid marketing gimmick that i would never personally use. Second, the whole camera thing, there is WAY more to cameras than megapixel count. The iPhone 4 is integrating some sensor technologies that are standards in digital cameras but have been nearly absent from smart phone cameras. Same idea behind why a two year old, 8 megapixel dSLR takes better pictures than a brand new 12 mp point and shoot. Theres is more to photo technology than pixels. The iPhone 4 camera will probably be one of the best for photo quality (can't be worse than droids crappy camera). I really dislike all apple products, but i must admit, i really hope that some of this camera technology works its way into a verizon android phone when I am eligible for my annual upgrade. I'm eligible in november, but i'll porbably wait for LTE devices in 2011.

I'd like to see how this new phone compares with the HTC Desire. I'm in Canada, and so the best it's going to get is the Desire (reportedly coming in July/August). It's crap that the best takes forever to filter up North. Mostly, I'm wondering if I'll notice the difference in screen resolution between the two.

iOS is more polished. Apple sweats the details like no one else, so it's a prettier, nicer UI than Sense or stock Android. From a practical viewpoint though, Android still trumps it. I just wish it looked as pretty, and the devices available to me were more forthcoming.

So, Desire or iPhone4? Hm. I guess I still have some time to decide.

OK , it's not a game changer, for the software side, i agree that android is still greater OS.

As for the hardware side, it's on bar with other smart phones (like the Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Evo, Milestone, ... etc), although i like new 2 things new to any phone (The gyro and the new 960x640 display).

Yes the screen is a small for a smart phone these day as the HD2, the Evo and the Galaxy S set the stander to 4.x" displays, and yes Super AMOLED displays are much much brighter than the iPhone display add to that Samsung Super AMOLED displays have a contrast ratio of 30,000:1 (compare to 800:1 in the new iPhone 4, that's 37x more contrast in the AMOLED display)...

but still i don't see 300ppi as pointless, i still recall when people use to say that WVGA in a mobile phone is pointless, current android phones like the Evo and the Galaxy S have around 233ppi, and since the eye can resolve up to 300ppi, the iPhone display is better (in the resolution aspect alone).

Betamax lost because they didn't pick up on the porn industry.

Not making me feel bad about my decision at all. I left the Iphone 3gs behind for Evo and this doesn't even make me think twice. I thing apple is in trouble. I have been a Iphone fan boy for 2 years and the Evo is just crushing this new phone.

I am wondering if iPhones will still command their own special tariff as they do in the UK, in a few months time.

It was the tariff that made me go for the Desire over waiting for the new iPhone as over a 2 year contract it was something like a

I've never been a fan of the iPhone, always thought it was overpriced hype. I'm no Apple hater however, I'm typing on a Mac now, and love OSX.

I really like the form factor of the new iPhone though, however it'll be about another 14 months before I can upgrade my Desire, so no chance I'll be buying one!

It seems nice enough to me, and really it always has. But I like Verizon and I want a QWERTY keyboard, and that's just not here.

As for the gyro, I wondered why phones hadn't used that yet. I met, I could've sworn Android already has gyro capability built into th eos, there just haven't been any phones to use it yet.

well really aren't the 2 magnetic sensors for the compass, gps, and accelerometer the same? I guess the gyro would add another axis...

I would have to say the one thing I am jealous about, is that the iPhone certainly has a build quality to it, that is yet unrivaled in terms of materials, quality of the hardware (the glass front and back and metal sides) in comparison to its price point.

It was funny watching him NOT connecting to At&t... and that's the Achilles-heel...

Nice looking phone, futuristic and sleek, thin, but lets see how the battery life is, and if it's (battery) interchangeable
