Apple iPhone Arrival at Verizon Delayed | Technology | Financial Articles & Investing News | TheStreet.com

I tend to agree with the author, that it doesnt make sense for Apple (or Verizon for that matter) to bring a 3G CDMA iPhone as it will be a LOT of time/money spent on a "placeholder" phone until 4G is a reality.

This gives Verizon time to push it's Android phones and Apple time to develop the technology. It gives both parties to create a strategic plan for launching the most anticipated Cell Launch of all time..

    IMHO that is ;)

Hopefully the VZW Nexus One is a slam dunk. If they do it right and don't take the easy route with the hardware and software then the VZW/Iphone match will be nice but not as important.

I think that the current gen Nexus One owners are beta testers for the millions of potential VZW customers.

Let's go VZW, give us some news.

If the N1 is sold in stores, it will be huge. If Google stays their current course, sales will be very average. Also, after what Jobs did with the iPad, I think it's safe to say that that portended to mediocrity with the iPhone 4G.

That story is all based upon Wall Street analysts..I think we'd be just as well off to watch for groundhogs and shadows.

how about verizon keeps the icrap off the network so we don't need have the fan boys clogging up the data network looking for ways to make their phones actually work

    Look it,

There is a better chance of Google monitoring which apps get sold at the marketplace a la Apple iTunes and Google dissolving the OHA and having the Nexus One be the sole handset representing Android than the iPhone coming to Verizon. It just is not happening. Even if LTE was fully deployed, Apple would not work with Verizon.

Apple knows they can boost sales with a Verizon iPhone. But they haven't. And as far as I'm concerned, AT&T=Apple- without the iPhone, AT&T would not have the business it has now- something like 40%+ of its business comes from the iPhone. So Jobs can tell De La Vega to give him his pancreas, and De La Vega would do it. Why give that up? People are still signing on with AT&T for the iPhone- if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

i've had nightmares about the icrap coming to verizon. I can see TMobile getting it seeing as how its another GSM network, but even when VZW goes LTE i don't think we're gonna see that pos over here at big red.

At&t's business comes from the icrap, why would they want a competitor with better service and coverage get it?

Are you saying you think it's possible that a Nexus One running on Verizon won't be available in Spring 2010 as Google's web site currently says?

I understand the reasons that AT&T wouldn't want VZW to get the iPhone, but isn't that up to Apple? I feel like Apple would increase revenue by releasing it on VZW. But after the iPad press conference that was a huge disappointment, I think the iPhone 4G will be a letdown too. SO hopefully it'll stay off big red as long as possible.

The funny thing about the iphone is, if you ask your average user who wants an iphone why they do in fact want an iphone, the answer is: "its the iphone." Umm, ok.

There are many interesting reports out there that would suggest Verizon is getting the iphone--without actually stating it. Notice how ATT has eschewed android for a long time and now is starting to promote android phones.

Do apple iphones with cdma currently exist? More than likely. One site--appleinsider.com I believe, posted a report awhile back how apple had a posting for a cdma engineer position, so draw your own conclusion.

If the iPhone goes to too many carriers it will die like the razr. Keeping it exclusive keeps prices and demand high. Think Harley-Davidson and Bose. Sheeple drive the market.

I think it would be stupid for the iPhone to come to VZW without LTE, heck at this point, I don't even want to see the N1 without LTE.

I know everyone wants an awesome phone right now, but when the new network is up, you'll want a new phone anyway. That is why I grabbed my Droid now so that I'll be closer to my NE2 when the new network is rolled out.

CDMA will be the dominant radio tech for at least 2 more years on Verizon IMO, LTE is too expensive to really deploy at a rapid pace. So I don't buy the idea that Apple won't release an iPhone with CDMA bands because LTE will be here eventually. LTE for ATT is even further off than Verizon too, so it's going to be awhile before Apple needs to get that in the iPhone. Next years model is the earliest I'd expect to see a true 4G iPhone.

CDMA is going to continue to be the dominant voice tech for at least the next 10 years. Not sure where you got your 2 year date from, but all evidence points to CDMA being there for voice for at least 10 years. Oh yeah, Verizon did release info stating such.

LTE is going to really shine for data users. People who use phones for just voice (which is the majority of cell phone users) will notice no difference when the CDMA to LTE transition occurs for data services.

And yes, there are in fact CDMA iphones out there. I alluded to that, it was ignored and apparently people can not read between the lines. The larger question is, is the iphone a better device than an android based phone? The answer is no, they are not. But hey, people have this strange desire to be locked into steve jobs' reality distortion field, so more power to them.

Stop this thread. A verizon iPhone is nothing more than a dream for iPhone users. IMO, this monopoly will continue, even after lte is deployed on verizon. If you want a iPhone, you want a iTouch with a monthly fee of $80+/month.

After Apple decided to pull a cheap shot at HTC/Android, Im now fully against them and will not consider the iPhone even if it comes to VZW :)
