I'm contemplating installing Froyo n my X but I have seen some people have been switching back to 2.1. Is 2.2 buggy or glitched. I know the market isn't working right, but thats the only negative thing that I have read about.

Any suggestions or comments on this?

i think it is more than worth it. but that's just me. plus, there is a fix for the market issue.

although, if you dont feel comfortable messin with this stuff, i recommend just waiting. do some homework and read about some of the issues, and how to fix them if they arise. if you do feel comfortable with those things, then i think it is worth it. i have experienced very little in the way of bugs.

Well, I must be the only person that has had zero issues going to 2.2 early. All the issues people report, I try to reproduce and can't. My phone is functioning perfectly.

However, with all the hype surrounding froyo, I was severely let down. I expected to install 2.2 and go "WOW!!!! AMAZING!!!!! OOOOHHH!!!! AAHHHH!!!" But I didn't. I just want "Meh, that's it? All this hoopla for that?"

So in a nutshell, was it worth installing early? No. Then again, I have never been that excitable, probably why I am good at operating a nuclear power plant.

    Is froyo worth it? DUH
is this leak of froyo worth it? Maybe
You just have to ask yourself if you want it with the few bugs it has or wait for the final version.
as a former Eris user, the leak of 2.1 was WAYYY worth it, and so is this.

I like it. Havent had any major issues that I couldn't solve. I personally think its better than 2.1 (I LOVE having web flash! That itself is worth the update) even with a few minor bugs. And I figure that when 2.2 comes out, someone will make another 2.2 update.zip with the official release that we can install the same way.

I have had no major issues, in fact the only issue I have had is not being able to send MMS through Handcent, but can receive. I can also sent through the standard texting so there is a work around. There are a couple apps that I had that will not work on 2.2 yet, but nothing too big.

Having Flash is huge. Battery life seems a lot better and the sound in a lot louder, not that that was a major issue with me to start with.

I am glad I did it and not planning on going back to 2.1. I put it on my phone Friday morning.

The market on my non-rooted 2.2 install works most of the time, and only occasionally has issues. It's not as impressive as I'd hoped it be, but as said above, it feels like 2.1 with slightly better battery life, and the full web (flash). A few other 2.2 apps don't hurt like google voice actions, etc.

I've had minimal problems with the leaked 2.2 update but I feel like my rooted, overclocked 2.1 performed better, hopefully the official 2.2 update is an improvement. I've been thinking about going back to 2.1 until the official release.

It's worth it....I even had to downgrade back to 2.1 for a couple days as I wasn't rooted the first time and thus the market bug couldn't be fixed (a deal breaker). But after the downgrade I missed the "polish" and the "speed" of Froyo so I rooted and re upgraded and retained Root...........good times, VERY happy :)

I'm one of the few who went back to 2.1 I guess. Just did this morning. The handcent/MMS issue bothered me a lot. I didn't have many issues, the batter manager one off and on. Battery life was definitely better, which made my choice to go back a bit tougher. If some custom ROMs pop up between now and prior to the real OTA I may go back.

I'm happy with 2.2, no issues so far at all. Although if I had not already done it, seeing all these "My X is Bricked" posts lately, I probably would have held off for sheer fear of getting a paperweight.

Biggest changes for me are better battery life and flash:)

I was thinking the same thing. I had absolutely no issues when I upgraded (and I did it within hours of the update.zip getting released.

I had already used 2.2 on my Droid 1 so I knew exactly what I was getting. There are a few things that I missed about 2.2 when I got my X so I was glad to have little things like ChromeToPhone and Flash back.

I like the way you think. haha Same for my phone. Absolutly no issues what so ever. on the other end initially i was excited untill i went to install it and forgot to take off the custom boot video.. and had to install from sbf before realizing i left in the custom boot.. but after that fiasco not one problem. was it worth it? ehh.. a few things here and there that i like and notice but over all it's not much unless you go into the ground work of it and start tweeking

    Depends.

    1) Do you need/want flash?
    2) Would you find Chrome to Phone useful? (Send websites, copied text, maps to your phone from desktop browser)

Other than those two things, I don't find froyo that great. Slightly improved performance, but isn't a miracle (doesn't fix lock screen lag, voice commands don't work well for me on the DX).

Battery life for me is actually worse cause motorola services keeps downloading 20 mb of data every time I unplug. Can't seem to get it to stop.

2.2 is worth it alone for the HIGHMEM support (the 2.6.32 Kernel supports ram>256mb), whats the point of having a phone with 512mb ram if the phone isn't using it all on 2.1

Its like the above post said: it depends. Cuz there will be bugs. There might be bugs in the final, hopefully not as many.

The bugs could be the install methods used, could be 2.1 apps not playing nice on 2.2 (the first install of Froyo auto-installs apps u used on 2.1 so that could lead to some incompatibility issues), could just be actual bugs, etc.

I found a performance boost that makes it worth it for me, besides Flash and Chrome to Phone. I view pdf's alot on my phone. On 2.1, I thought it was a feature or normal to pause when going from one page to the next. On 2.2, I see it isnt. U can see the page loading, but it doesnt pause anymore. And the next page loads alot faster.

Scrolling thru Running Services in Settings doesnt stall on me anymore. It did on 2.1. Even tho thats not something I will be doing on a regular basis, its a sign of improvement.

Flash is good for me cuz I use a radio site that has a station that got taken off local radio. It has a HUUUGE list of radio stations from all over the world, not just local ones.

I dont know about battery life....cuz I get the battery Manager force close...lol. I may try to monitor it more when I get the chance.

The sad part is for the Droid, Froyo is a great, amazing thing with the performance increase. Froyo might not be as big of a performance increase for the recent phones.

I thought that was fixed in the .33 kernel not .32?

well I just installed it. Went smoothly, kept root and TiB works.

I find it funny how it came with bloatware though.

    Thanks for everyones input

As much as Verizon would like to make us happy and release Froyo, they're still working on it for a reason.... it isn't ready for release.

Since it's in the wild now, no doubt they are checking out some of our complaints, which could push back the release even further, but give us a more stable and reliable build.

Unless it fixes a serious problem you have with 2.1 and you feel comfortable flashing back to 2.1, I wouldn't recommend it.

Well, tonight I went back to my stable, rooted, overclocked, RevoThemed, 2.1 backup. I had some weird issues with 2.2 today where the dialed worked but I could not hear it ring when I was calling someone and could not hear the person on the other end. Later today I ran a quadrant test and the video decoding step in the cpu part of the test would fail along with the video playback not working for recorded videos. I haven't been messing around with any apps or settings at all today so it's just more random bugs. I'll wait for the official release.

The nice thing was it took a total of about 25 minutes to flash the phone, wipe the data/cache, activate it, root it (app is on the sd card), install bootstrap recovery and the restore my backup. Everything worked great and I feel better knowing I don't have a buggy setup.

Oh Crap! I was hoping this wasn't Froyo related. I just got my phone a few days back and of course when the froyo buzz hit, I just had to jump in. I had this very thing happen to me last evening and thought it was just due to mucking with different app installs and heavy usage but ended up having to reboot to get my earpeace/phone volume back as it did this very thing.

Now I'm really on the fence as to flash back to 2.1 and lose my setup but gain stability? Blah....
