Hi, I'm an Android newbie having just happily ditched my iPhone 3G for an HTC Desire Black from Orange in the UK.

I've just updated to 2.2 Froyo after Orange UK eventually saw fit to allow me to install it. The first question is:

Do I really have to wait until my operator allows me to upgrade in future or can I take control of my handset?

The second point is with regards to 2.2 - I believe I should now be able to decide whether apps are installed on Phone memory or SD. However I don't seem to have any options to control this. I was playing around with moving Angry Birds to SD card today. A buddy of mine has a Desire with Vodafone and when in application settings for Angry birds he has an option to "Transfer to SD Card". I don't have this option, even after uninstalling and then re-installing the application. What's going on here?

Sorry about the forum mix-up, where should I have posted for future reference?

You are quite right about the software version:, I currently have "2.1 update1". Forgive my ignorance but how to I force the update to 2.2? I can't see any options to upgrade to 2.2 anywhere.

    Many thanks.

    Steve

    OK, figured it out:
Settings > About Phone > System Software Updates

Didn't realise that option was in there.

Upgrading my OS at I type. Surprised that wasn't a bit more obvious, I assumed once I'd got the message from Orange and completed the download/install/reboot that I was all Froyo'd up.

    Thanks for your help!

    No worries mate.

    Probably the support and troubleshooting.one..

This is for rooted phones so most people wouldn't see your post.

    Glad its sorted
