Is nobody rooting their 10.1?

I was really excited when I got my 10.1 and how easy it was to root it. There's a handful of ROMs out there on XDA and Monster has done a fantastic write up on the basics. I was just curious why it hasn't caught on over here?
Over clocking looks to be a bit tough with the OTA update being used on the latest ROMs, but there's lots that can be done without the customizing. I like to be able to tether with my Droid, use AdFree, SetCPU (for underclocking when asleep) and Root Explorer. I guess once I rooted my Droid over a year ago I became addicted and it was great to get the Galaxy Tab rooted so easily.
Anyone else out there rooting or looking to? I'd love to get the sub-forum running.
    :)

I wouldn't think of NOT rooting my DroidX, but I haven't found the need to root my GT10.1.

My LTE tab is rooted, but AFAIK there aren't any ROMs for the LTE yet, all the devs have the wifi only. I do like RootExplorer, and the LTE needs to be rooted for Netflix (need the transformer patch) so it was still worth it- and it was super super simple, I was impressed.

I agree....my Droid X is rooted and I don't think I could live with it any other way. With that being said, I have found no reason either to root my 10.1.

I'd root my tab but seeing as it's really my moms I'm gonna wait till there's a confirmed way to bring it back to stock until I root it.

Stock firmware is out there already; easy enough to flash it and unroot ;)

Admittedly, this hasn't done as much to improve my tab as rooting and ROMing my Droid has. (yet!) Also, looks like Pershoot has modified his 1.4Ghz overclock kernel to work with TouchWiz! I guess I'll give it a shot (folks saying it runs fine with the StarBurst ROM I'm using).

I would like to un-root as my tablet is not stable running at 1.4. My main reason to root was overclocking, hoping to eliminate pixelation when playing HD movies. I was surprised when overclocking as high as 1.7 did not correct the pixelation. Any how could you please provide a link to stock firmware and un-rooting procedure.

It's the 4G LTE one from Verizon if that makes a difference.

AFAIK there aren't any custom ROMs yet for the LTE version anyway, most of the devs all have the Wifi version (unlike the Xoom where more people have 3G since it came out first). Mine is rooted, but everything is still stock.

I rooted my phone and mainly did so to be able to use Titanium backup and tethering. Our SGT is Wifi only, so we do not see much need to root it. The only thing worth backing up is my wife's progress on Angry Birds Rio! Other than that, pretty much everything is in the cloud already, so there is not even a need to backup.

BTW on my phone, I use Titanium more to force apps to the SD card than I do to backup. My phone only has ~220MB available to apps, but the SGT has more than enough space for our needs.

OK I thought rooting was a way to ugrade the os, if there is a 3.2 or a 3.4 I would like to be able to, if I wished take advantage.

Rooting would probably let you take advantage of it a little sooner since there are often custom ROMs made by the user community. You do not have to be rooted to get official updates though. In fact, you typically lose root access when doing an official upgrade. The next big thing is going to be Ice Cream Sandwich and it should be out in the next few months.

it's still early for the 10.1 too. The first LTE devices just hit a few weeks ago? Month ago?

Also, I'll try and do a better job of keeping the root threads in the root section so we can start to build a base of information here :) Hope that will help.

The SHT 10.1 3g has tethering build in. what can Titanium do for me that I can't do without rooting?

Titanium can back up all your apps with settings. It's mainly used for when you need to wipe /data (when installing a new ROM).
I believe he was referring to tethering from his 3G phone to the wifi only tablet (though I could be wrong). I've read some folks don't need to have root on tablet (with hacks also) to tether. However, there was a bit of permissions I needed to change (with Root Explorer, and the Terminal; both of which require root).
All and all, there isn't a ton that's been changed with a rooted GT, but it's still nice to have these hacks.

I honestly love Honeycomb... and the Touchwiz UX is doing well for me so far. I haven't really had the desire to root it yet.... even though I insta root my phones, that's different imo.

I now rooted the Sgt using the over the air instructions and installed Titanium to back up the app settings. The rooting process was very easy.

Im rooted but no special roms out there. The few that are out there are the same and done give you much different from stock. So if your not rooted I would wait until some good roms show up.... Hope Miui comes our way!

I've no real reason to root just yet.

  23. I rooted in the fiorst hour. Benefits are obvious: much better battery life with Setcpu, no crap junk apps and great apps like Titanium Backup, Power Switch and Screenshot ER. Thats just for starters...

I have a galaxy s and a 10.1 tab and theres nothing I've needed root for the battery life on both is great and I've never seen the point of most of the root apps back-up not needed tweaking cpu not needed on either and they have everything out of the box you need already. All my apps are synched to my account and they both work really well. All share is the only thing missing from the tab and thats due in the next update.

I rooted my SGT 16gb WiFi, just for the purpose of getting rid of the bloated apps on it, and for titanium back up other then that the stock ROM works great for me...
