Or do you have to buy an app for it?

It's free. Just search on the market for "compass"

No compass app (although location apps can utilize the built in compass), but there is a compass app in the market that you can download

This new generation of smart phones are the "swiss army knives" of cell phones. My Incredible is now also a compass, flashlight, and level. Anybody know where I can find the circular saw app?:)

Has anyone gotten Droidlight to work? Just wondering what Callahan meant about the flashlight...

Most likely a flashlight app that utilizes the screen. No app yet to use the LED lights.

Also...in Google Maps there is a Lab feature (or maybe it's a "layer" feature) that allows you to have a blue arrow on your screen as a compass.

That's right. Not much for a light really, but it's already helped out in one situation.
