Is there a way to turn off cellular other than airplane mode?

I am trying to make calls using GVoice via wireless but with Airplane mode on, and WiFi on the phone function will not work.

    Any apps or widgets?

I tried Quick Switching widget but doesn't work on droid.

Google voice uses your cellular minutes, it isn't VOIP.

Someone said you can turn on the wireless radio after putting it into airplane mode and it will work. As it was said though, GV isn't voip.

Does adding your GV # to friends and family circle or whatever Verizon is calling it, still work?

GV uses and has to have cellular signal. Music apps use data signals . Two different signals.

For free outgoing calls you need to add the number google voice dials when you make a call. To find out what that number is make a call using google voice and you will see it up top. For incoming calls I think you use your gv number but your callers have to dial it.

True, but in a rare case, one may be using a "pay per use" or "limited minutes" SIP client for calling, in that case, it would be an "all data call(s)". For instance, I had my Vonage "softphone" client setup with sipdroid...but with Vonage, I only get 500 minutes per month with that account, vs. unlimited on the main.

Quick settings doesn't do what you want. Here's a round-about way to do it: Install the app called "Any Cut", use it to add a shortcut on your home screen to "Phone info". Open your phone info shortcut, and scroll down to the "turn off radio button".

I'm working on a widget to make this easier, stay tuned...

"GV uses and has to have cellular signal."

Not true. GV in call-back mode only needs a phone number. That number can be a free VoIP number that is answered by Sipdroid. Which means you can use it to make calls to any phone, without using your cell phone's voice plan at all.

ssshhh... don't tell too many people, I have a feeling the cell phone companies will not be happy about this...

Ok you guys are right about that, but most of the posts here are about using GV by itself without any SIP clients in which case you use your minutes.

To turn off the cell phone radio (not wifi ):

At the dialpad (where you make a phone call) type in *#*#4636#*#* . Under phone information, select turn radio off.
