I figured out how to turn off the email notifications but I keep getting random notifications when it fails to sign in. It can get annoying.

Depends on what email you're using. The ability to disable the Notifications permission is grayed out on both Email and Exchange Services. Gmail can have it's Notifications permission unchecked though.

It's the default email app for S4. I use it to check my yahoo mail.

Yeah the stock Email app can't have it's Notifications completely disabled via App Info so the login warnings will probably have to be stopped with a third-party app if at all.
