Ivona text-to-speach engine replacement

I used to love this app with the Kendra voice - it sounded warm and professional, and the only reader which I could use through MoonReader which didn't make me feel as edgy as the stock reader voice sounds. Now after a recent phone upgrade it does worse than not work - before I can even leave the settings where I tried to switch to Ivona, my screen locked up, the text rattled, and my battery started heating up! Has anyone had a similar experience with Ivona, or another TTS engine?
