So this should eradicate the brick bug that was present in the ics kernel? :)

I think its hard coded to its internal apps just for news, stick and facebook.

I'm pretty sure you can do it with Widgetlocker though.

I Believe Stock Kernel Has Brick Bug, Only Philz Rooted Kernel Doesn't Have It!

If this is an issue for you then i assume you will be roooted, in which case the best bet would be to use something like simplistic rom or neat rom!

Just in case anyone else has this problem....

I thought mine was bricked when I first tried to root ready to backup. It was only a black screen and no boot but I still had the recovery menu.

I was on Orange, LPH Kernal. When I rooted I would just get a black screen using rooted LPH version. I tried one lower but still had the same problem. I think I then tried LP7 and it allowed me to boot and nearly worked but the camera and playback videos were black screen still.

Either way, it was enough for me to backup so I could put this JB on and I'm absolutely chuffed with it.

Again my thanks goes to Ironass as I found all my info (mostly in a panicked state) from his posts. Cheers again fella!

Well, I have now had this Jelly Bean firmware on for 2 weeks now and, without a doubt, it has to be the best first release, let alone pre-release, firmware that I have ever installed. :)

Not only is it fast and slick but the innovations that have been introduced in Android 4.1.2 are amazing. It really is like having a new phone.

The changes are too numerous to mention here but you can read about them, here.

With only another day to go in November, it is doubtful if Samsung will meet their, Provisional date", for release. However, I feel that it cannot be too long before the roll-out begins and the first CSC codes start getting JB.

Right sick of waiting for the update, but being a real noob about phones I still want to do this.

So I d/l from the link on the first page. Back up all my important stuff and flash via Odin.

My phone has the following info:

    PDA: i9100XWLPY
    pHONE: I9100XXLQ6
    CSC: I9100NEELP6

Anythin else I should/should not do?

Yesterday upgraded to Ver. 4.1.2 successfully. Trully impressive. Unfortunately flashing led to deletion of all data except music and video files. All contacts, memos, schedules etc. lost.
I had taken a backup under Kies before flashing and can technically restore data from there. However, despite best efforts I am unable to connect my SG2 to Kies after flashing. Kies takes 10-15 minutes connecting and even when it finally does, says that it can not service the device. Restore terminates after giving error.
I have tried every possible way incl. updating USB drivers etc. but to no avail.
Can someone help me in recovering my data?

Reflash 4.0.4, restore your data, back it up anyway you want EXCEPT Kies, reflash 4.1.2, restore your backups.

Contacts: You can back them up by syncing it to your google account or Go to Contacts > Import/Export > Export to USB Storage / Export to SIM Card.

I don't know about the others, sorry.

    SCP,

I had tried this too, but same issue remains.

If you already backup using Kies, then its most likely saved as a .spb file or something like that. Anyway, open Kies without the phone connected. Open the backup contact file. And save it as a csv file. That way you can transfer that to the phone and open it from the phone.

    Just a suggestion.

Will flashing this result in yellow triangle?
  16. Ijaz Ahmed

    Ijaz Ahmed Well-Known Member

No, if you just flash the firmware.

Afterwards if you flash anything like third part kernel, CWM etc then you will get the triangle.

Will I need to go back to 4.0.4 first to update officially using kies?(when it eventually arrives) If I flashed this leak of course!
  18. Ijaz Ahmed

    Ijaz Ahmed Well-Known Member

Yes, you will need to go back to the ICS (stock / un-rooted).

Ah ok thanks! So flashing this unofficial JB will mean I will be/need to be rooted?
  20. Ijaz Ahmed

    Ijaz Ahmed Well-Known Member

No need to be rooted, if already rooted, you will lose root.

I thought rooting would allow more of a backup so I rooted before backing up then changing firmware. Will Titanium still backup the likes of sms, contacts, etc, without?

Please excuse my ignorance, I'm quite a noob at this. All this info has been great thank you - especially from you and Ironass - I'm just in information overload mode.

I am not sure if Titanium Backup includes SMS, contacts etc or not. However, a Nandroid backup using a custom recovery like CWM, makes an image of the system.

For SMS and Call logs backup, you really don't need to be rooted. You can use apps from market "SMS Backup and Restore" and "Call Log Backup and Restore". Regarding contacts, mine are always on Google so I never had a worry about them.

A forum is nothing except some experts like "ironass" and many noobs :)

I will try to help as much as possible.

I sometimes get this lag as well. Just one to two seconds. Not a big deal as apart from that and a reduction in battery life it all appears 100% functional.

Lags a lot when scrolling through previous messages in a conversation also.
