I've been waiting to buy a touchscreen phone for over a year now, but nothing grabbed me enough to make the commitment. First it was gonna be the Pre, then the Mytouch, then the Hero, then the Droid, then the Nexxus. The Droid didn't completely grab me, but the time came where I needed to finally get a new phone and I figured I'd be happy with the Droid for a year and half or so and then get what I'm REALLY waiting for, which I'm still no sure what that is. ha ha.

Anywho, I ordered two droids today for me and my son from Dell for $119 each. I ordered their screen protectors, too. I was a little leary of it because she called them "universal" protectors which I'm going to guess means they won't fit the Droid EXACTLY and may require some trimming, which I do NOT want to do. But, when I asked her she said they will fit the droid.

Any advice for me as an Android Newbie, and the Droid specifically? Stuff like how to configure it so it doesn't drain the battery and the best keyboard, etc.
Maybe a good home screen cuz the default doesn't look too great.

    Thanx

Find all the DROID forums on the net, and use the search tool in each forum. A wealth of knowledge at your finger tips. And for goodness sake, don't ask questions that have been asked hundreds of times before. That's just wrong. ;)

I understand about asking the questions that have already been asked thing and the resources that are available, but I think that's more for specific questions I might have, such as how do you change your homescreen or turn off wi-fi, etc.

I guess I was looking more for like "the first thing you should do is blah blah blah, and also you should do xyz," and so on. I mean I'm not even gonna know where to begin with this thing and Android.

That's more what I was looking for.

It's really up to you how you want to start. When I got my Droid I had never used an Android phone before. The first thing I did was play with it for about 8 hours (at work.. didn't get much work done) just to see how everything worked. Then I went on an app downloading frenzy. There's really nothing that everybody needs to do right off the bat, in fact the phone is pretty nice out of the box. Check out the "5 things" thread mentioned above though, and if you have any specific questions don't hesitate to ask. Some people might insist you use search, but I don't want the forums to die because no new questions are ever asked. A lot of us are still willing to help.
