The most sensive component is the Li-Ion battery.
If you're worried about the temperature you'd install a battery monitor like Battery Monitor Widget for to measure the temperature of the battery (by time on a graph).
The Li-Ion battery's temperature operating range is:
for discharging -20C (-4F) to +60C (+140F).
for charging 0C (+32F) to +45C (+113F).
Mine was getting rather hot when I first got it as well, I called AT&T the tech told me to do a spot reset, =pull battery out while phone is on leave out for 5 minutes, put Battery back in turn phone on. It fixed my over heating problem and my Battery life went up to... after a couple full battery cycles..that's 100% down to below 15% then full charge...
