Has anyone had problems with getting LED notifications to work? I can't find any setting that will make the LED flash with this ROM. Also having difficulty getting the trackball notifications to work. The only time the LED lights is when the phone is charging.

Sorry, but the last Kaos I've run in my device at length is v27 (back on xtrROM 4.0.4 now), so I can only vouch for mms working fine in that version.

Frisco, you have to be my favorite person here! you are extremely helpful and one of the only people (besides me) who loved their eris with 1.5!

That's a nice thing to say, rick.. thank you.

Yep, we were probably the only two who only reluctantly allowed the 2.1 OTA.

Rick311...you may also want to try qic video (d/l from Market). You create an account online, and set it to private so that only she can see what you are up to. Now, if you plan to do things that you don't want coming out when you become a celebrity, remember that you ARE sending your video to the "cloud". :D

so now that you did the 2.1 and are rooted, why do you not use this kaos froyo and use xtrrom?

haha, it's not like that. that's what skype is for! ;)

No need to stress the CPU by overclocking it, with xtrROM.

With the Froyo ROMs, I could get pretty close to xtrROM's performance by overclocking, however, no matter which ROM we're running, we're running them on the same hardware; I just see no reason to push the CPU if I don't have to.

and XTR is still 2.1, right? i kinda want to see how froyo works on this phone, but if you think XTR is better i might go that route.

Yes, xtrROM is a 2.1 ROM.
The Kaos ROM has some nice features, I quit using of it because it developed a very bad lag. In another thread it's being stated that the lag was due to the ADW launcher, and that using LauncherPro made the problem go away. I'll probably be giving it another try some day. However I just flased to xtrROM v4.04 yesterday, so I'll work with this for a while. I've been using xtrROM 3.x as my primary ROM for quite a while, for ME it's the one to beat.

In testing Kaos v27 I found that it is snappy and fast once overclocked to 710.. I found no serious bugs, and two versions have come out since then so I'm sure it's moving along to perfection.

The only recommendation I have for a ROM, after getting into 18 now counting the Froyo versions, is xtrROM 2.1.1, 3.0.3 and now I feel the same about 4.0.4.

I'm sorry if this seems narrow or like a "fan boy," but I'm going by the two biggies in all this for me: stability and speed, as I was quite used to a stable OS right from the beginning with 1.5. There is no way I'd want to downgrade my experience with the Eris just for the thrill of having a rooted device.

The xtrROM serious by "zach.xtr" is just the best in my estimation.

Incidentally, he has communicated to me that he does not accept donations and wishes any money with him in mind go to the developer of one of the first "kitchens" which spawned most of these ROMs: "dsixda" at XDA forums (and many other places you'll find if you google him as I did).

I am running v.27 right now and am having issues with the mms. And for that fact, trying to load any pictures or videos gives me unfavorable results.

    Any fixes???

We're beginning to see something I don't like seeing with some ROMs: more bugs in later versions of a ROM.

Have you run v27 yet, or perhaps an earlier one? I found no problems in that one.

Post #6 has links to all Kaos versions 16 to 29.

I agree it's not a great trend to see, but speaking as a programmer (which I do for a living) it's SO easy to fix one thing and break something else. And if you don't specifically test for that 'something else' it doesn't get caught until the program is released into the wild.

For me, and it doesn't sound like it is this way for everyone else, I found Kaos V29 to be much slower than xtrROM. I had lots of trouble with lag at times. When it wasn't lagging, it was very snappy.
For now, and probably the foreseeable future, I will be on xtrROMs until I get a phone upgrade. I'm tired of trying out Froyo ROMs that seem to only work well for me half of the time or less.

I'm not sure that this is a fair criticism of the Froyo ROMs. Froyo is so new, and they are changing frequently, which is not the case with Eclair.

As somebody who tried KaosFroyo a few weeks ago, and then again last week, there is no way that you can say that it is getting buggier. It was always stable, remains so, but there are more and more features working now than then.

I think I agree, it could have been more fairly put by me, "We're beginning to see something I don't like seeing with some ROMs: more reports of bugs in later versions of a ROM."

That can be explained by that fact that the Froyo ROMs are getting a lot more exposure lately, a lot more. ;) So, we're bound to see more scrutiny by a larger population of users.

damn, Frisco, you have convinced me. as much as i would love to have froyo on my phone, XTR seems to be the way to go! are you running 3.03 or 4.0.4? im going to do this once i get home. Also, how many screens do they have? the 7 like sense or 3 like stock android?

Not to seem confusing, but Froyo ROMs will run fine on an Eris that is overclocked. I'll dare say that if you flash Kaos v27 or the latest Tazz you'll be happy and see your device fly, so if you have an urge to run 2.2, go for it, it's ok.

There are some tweaks that help even more, such as disabling the animations, etc, using a launcher that is snappy, such as Home or LP.

My Kaos v27 (which I have a recovery image of as I run xtrROM 4.0.4) is overclocked at 710/710 and a sleep profile of 245/245. I used Root Explorer to weed out all goofy, I mean useless to me apps such as Facebook, etc.

Having said that, again, xtrROMs are just so fast that no overclocking is really needed, and I like that for the reasons posted many times before. ;)

Try them both, man. Test them out for a week or at least several days; ymmv.
