I've already "missed" a couple of calls even before I heard them ring, because my phone was in my pocket or bag and something must have touched the screen as soon as it unlocked with the incoming call.

On my old Treo I solved this problem by using a feature that let me keep the touch screen disabled until I pushed the actual green answer button. Is there a way to do this on the G1, or an app that will let me do that? I've looked and haven't been able to find anything so far.

    Thanks!

    some thoughts

    a) This touchscreen doesn't respond to anything that's not skin or a very specially designed stylus. The screen isn't likely to respond to anything in your bag except your hand.

    b) It's possible that the hangup button is what's being pressed, in which case, the app you're looking for won't actually be very helpful.

    c) I don't know how yours is, but my G1 vibrates twice before the rings start. If that's the case with yours, the signal might've been dropped, or the people changed their minds before you heard the ring. You'd still get a missed call though. On every phone I've ever had there is the periodic "phantom missed call" -- a call that I missed even though my phone never rang because it was sitting on a desk or chair right next to me. Sometimes there's voicemail and no missed call, a double phantom.

Thanks for the thoughts - I had forgotten about the difference in screen response types (since I always used my finger for the treo too).

In that case, maybe there's a "phantom" problem-- Today I had my phone in my jeans pocket and was walking around, and a caller called and left a message, which showed up on the phone as a missed call and a voice mail. But I thought I would have heard a ring and felt a vibration if there was one...

Yeah, that sounds like it. Although do keep in mind that if the fabric in your pocket is thin enough, your leg might actually start activating the screen! I've had the screen work through certain kinds of gloves and one time my chest started activating the screen when I had it in a pocket with the screen toward me.

Yeah, I was just about to reply about that exact thing -- I just did a test to see what happens when I rub my phone on my jeans, and things did get pushed on the screen. Also, I'm likely to push the screen as I fumble to pull a ringing phone out of my bag. So it would be really nice to find an app that helps me with this.

I also found a louder ringtone and increased the ring volume, in case it was just me not hearing the phone (this time).
