    Guys,
I am still on 1.5 and using the original keyboard.
I can't figure out where is the back arrow to make the cursor go back to
    a character I typed before.
    Is there a back arrow?
    Thanks,
    Peter

im not using the stock keyboard now, but I remember there being a "back" key. Isn't it just above the "Return" key on the lower right-hand side?

No soft key, trackball is your best (only) option.

The trackball will let you place the cursor, but it will not delete the previous entry, as a "back" key does.

there is a delete/back key but I think the OP was looking for a back arrow (as in to move the cursor back without deleting). there isn't one. you have to use the trackball to go back without deleting.

Thank you all for the trackball suggestion. I have completely forgotten about the little bugger!
