Kindle app loses my place if interrupted by a phone call

A strange behavior recently. When I am reading a Kindle book and am interrupted by a phone call, the app doesn't resume where I was. A couple of times I was kicked back to the beginning, a couple of times I was returned to my last bookmark, and twice I wound up losing all my bookmarks and highlights (though they were there when I opened the book on my laptop. Strangely, the new bookmarks and highlights never synced to the computer).

Is this a bug in an update? Did I somehow change some setting I can't figure out? Does the universe hate me?

Any suggestions?

I'm seeing the same thing, and have for as long as I've had the kindle app. I have sporadic good luck on some books, and then all of a sudden it will start reverting to the title page. This occurs if I drop out of the book to do something else and then restart the kindle app.
