I hope you're right, but in that case Moto or at least Punit Soni/David Schuster needs to be more transparent about their plans on G+. At this point it's starting to feel like the Droid Bionic all over again ... which Punit Soni famously said got a "raw deal" by Moto before the Google acquisition. The 2012 Droids getting 4.4.2 the VERY SAME WEEK that the 2013 Droids get another 4.4 build definitely deserves a comment at the very least, but it's nothing but deafening silence over there. My posts on their G+ pages are being ignored. Not a good sign, and does not inspire confidence or optimism at all.
I think it would be nice if they were more transparent, but I understand why they are not. Here's the thing: when you tell people something is going to happen and then it doesn't, you get a lot more anger than if you just don't tell people anything at all. We are seeing that with this update: people inferred that an update to 4.4.2 was coming and are reacting with anger and frustration that it's not what they expected.
Remember that the Droids are a Verizon brand made as a contract phone by Motorola. The Moto X is totally different - Moto makes it and negotiates with the carriers to sell the phone - totally opposite. Motorola is not in control of the update timeline, and it's quite possible that they are not allowed to discuss upgrade plans publicly without approval by Verizon. If it turns out that I was right about Verizon dictating update plans, then, if I were at Motorola, I'd be as frustrated as users of this phone are. I bet that they're pissed that they can't update the phone when they want to.
Seriously - I think it's clear: if you buy a carrier exclusive phone like the Droids, you just won't get updates ASAP, and, if that's important to you, then stop buying these phones.
I don't care about white icons, blue icons, transparent notification bars - that's all fluff that has nothing to do with usability (and I think usability is worse, actually, with transparent notification bar - it makes status harder to read in almost every case, and if they white icons no longer show network status, that's also a step down in user experience.). I really don't care if the phone is using 4.4 or 4.4.2 or 4.4.3. All I want is for the dumb bugs to be fixed. The fact that we are five months into the home bug and the share bug is just frustrating.
