I've read here that the Lapdock 100 is compatable with the Bionic, but Verizon's own website says that it isn't. Can anyone here tell me what the real story is?

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that it does work. I'll try to stop by the Verizon store myself to double check and then see what deals I can find. Rather annoying, but such is marketing.

I would like to examine the different specs between these 2 (or 3) lapdocks....

I think the Motorola site has them if you pick through it enough.

I found the one, and the one i link to is another (it seems)....

If that 500 means a larger battery pack, I might be down for that - instead of a full laptop I'll have what I need with these two and can save me a lot of Christmas shopping money lol....

Plus, the one slated specifically for the BIONIC looks a lot ... sleeker.

I went by the Verizon corporate store today and checked one out. It worked fine with my Bionic, even charges the battery. The price at the Verizon store is the same price as it is on their web site, $199.97 + tax. The Bionic with the extended battery and cover even fits in the slot on the back of the unit. I was impressed enough to buy one. Battery is charging at this time.

Just curious seeing that I bought one for my bionic as well. When I plug it in and open the lapdock I always get the message icon in the top right corner "USB Device not recognized." It is the USB icon with an orange exclamation point in it. Does anyone else get this icon too? I was getting all kinds of connection issues too so I exchanged it. The new one has the same problems so I wonder if the Bionic really is compatible or not.

Do you have anything plugged into the USB port? If so I would try removing whatever is installed and starting the unit up again, as I did not get that message. I did get that message when I attempted to use a USB hard drive. It was one that came out of an old laptop computer and was put into an adapter case with a USB converter. The drive wasn't being recognized because it was not formatted in FAT32. Once I re-formatted the drive into FAT32, the drive was recognized. My plan is to put anything that I think I might need from my main computer on to the USB drive and then carry it with the lapdock when traveling.
So far I am very happy with this gadget. It is no replacement for a laptop but will probably do enough that I won't travel with the laptop for short trips.
The one thing that I wish it would allow me to do is to download photos from my Canon digital SLR to the external hardrive, but it won't, because it doesn't recognize the camera as a USB drive.

I went to the VZW online store to take a look at the different lapdocks. I came across 3 different ones:

    Lapdock 100

    Lapdock for Bionic

    Lapdock 500

According to Verizon and Motorola the Lapdock 100 is compatible with the Droid Razr, Atrix 2, and Photon 4G. The Lapdock is compatible with the Droid Bionic. And the Lapdock 500 is compatible with the Droid Razr.

    Lapdock 100 Factsheet

    Lapdock 500 Fact Sheet

    VZW pricing is: Lapdock 100 = $199.97, Lapdock for Bionic = $249.97, and Lapdock 500 = $299.97.

    What a reviewer wrote:
The Lapdock for Bionic and Lapdock 100 seem to sport the same 10.1" screen but the Lapdock allows for 8 hour charge compared to the 100's 5 hour charge. The Lapdock is older while the 100 is newer as well as the 500. From my perspective the Lapdock for Bionic and 100 seem more like a netbook while the 500 is more like a notebook as it carries a 14.1" screen, full size keyboard, and webcam. The Lapdock 100/500 both use an extended cable which would be great for those who have cases. I would prefer the 500 myself but whether it's compatible with our Bionic is a different story.

The reviewer's comment regarding Lapdock 100 and phone battery charging is not what I have experienced. My Lapdock 100 does in fact charge the phone battery, even when the Lapdock is unplugged.

What's your real world battery life? I may consider picking up the Lapdock 100 some time soon.

I just got this thing last night so it is too early to tell.
So far I am happy with it. It does what it is supposed to do. It gets you much more out of your android phone, but it is no replacement for a laptop, android tablet or an I-Pad.

We spend a lot of weekends on our boat away from home. I'd like to be able to keep connected to news and e-mail w/o having to take along a 17" laptop. I think this will fit that niche nicely. The only thing I've found so far that I hoped it would do but won't is to let me download pictures from a digital camera to an external drive.

I like the idea of the lapdock because it gives me a physical keyboard making typing a lot easier and a bigger screen to see. It's definitely no replacement for a tablet or notebook. Its pretty much the best of both worlds. I think of it as like a chromebook cause well it is like a notebook running google's os :p.

Well, so far it's working 100% for me. The one thing I did do was go to a Verizon store and plug my phone into the demonstrator model that they had up and running. You might want to do that just to get an idea of how it works and what you're getting if you buy one. Who knows, maybe you'll get the opportunity to educate a Verizon store employee (in my case both the manager and the person ringing up my order) on how the Lapdock 100 is compatible with the Bionic!

I went to the local VZW store just now and tested my BIONIC with the Lapdock 100 (which is advertised for the RAZR) and the BIONIC Lapdock.

When I plugged my phone into the 100, it blanked my screen, but would not load on the lapdock. I tried numerous times, even disconnecting power and powering off the lapdock, rebooting it, etc. - nothing worked. Thinking it may be b/c of my updated Webtop from the 5.7.893, I had the sales rep try his pure stock BIONC. No dice - same story.

I then tried the BIONIC lapdock - it worked perfectly fine.

They did not have a 500 out on display for me to test.

I'm not making any conclusions, I'm just stating what my testing resulted in.

What position was the lid in on the 100? I've had no issue like that with mine. What I do is plug the Bionic in with the lapdock lid closed, then I open the lid once I see the Bionic screen go blank. The lapdock screen will remain blank for a few seconds then the motorola logo will come up then the phone screen pops up.
    I'm running Webdock version WT-1.3.0-108_DBN-21

Ahhh, I never tried it with the lapdock off and the screen completely down. I'll go back and try that this afternoon.

Hopefully this isn't too late to be of help. What I've done is to leave the lid on the 100 closed, plug in the Bionic, then wait for the Bionic screen to go dim. I then open the cover/lid to the lapdock. It will boot up as expected. Hope this helps!

It won't be too late - I was unable to make it back today, had a test to study for. I have a final tomorrow and a Final project with presentation on Friday, so I doubt I'll get back before the weekend.

I tried mine in one yesterday and it worked perfectly. Thinking about selling my lapdock that is for the bionic and getting the lapdock 100. I like the feel of the keyboard and trackpad better.

Thought I'd provide an update on my extended use of the Lapdock 100 with the Bionic.

I just returned from an extended trip from my home in NC to Port Canaveral, FL and back. I used the Lapdock with the Bionic to web surf and work e-mails most of the way down and back. Also used it in my hotel room in Savannah, GA last night. I found that the LTE connection was actually much faster than the hotel wireless wifi so I just used it with my unlimited data. I've got the Zumocast app activated and was able to view documents and photos on the lapdock from my home computer with absolutely no problems.

The battery life is good, and I especially like how it charges the Bionic's battery when it is plugged in. I also like how when the Lapdock is plugged into its charger and the Bionic is connected both the unit and the Bionic get charged.

Bottom line: The more I use the Lapdock 100 the more I like it. For $199 it was a heck of a value.

Well, this morning I'm going to take tools to my super cheap Atrix lapdock to see how well that works. I hope my luck is as good as yours!

I am having the same issue. I bought one from Verizon online and got the exact same error message and connection issues. I also noticed I could not disable my track pad my "tapping the top left corner" as it states you can. Eventually, my track pad stopped working and only my usb mouse would work. Then a few days later, the usb mouse would not work. So, I went to Verizon store and they were clueless and just gave me a new one. I am still getting that same error message with the second one. However, so far no track pad issues or usb mouse issues. Funny, this track pad will not disable either with a top left double tap.
