Say, an android app is installed on a device. And it should automatically launch immediately after receiving a particular SMS. Is it possible???

It is certainly possible using "Tasker". I have my phone set to do a number of tasks based on receiving an sms with a certain keyword. Launching a particular app is easy to do.

That's only one of the many benefits of Tasker, definitely worth the money!

    HI,
Actually, Tasker is a paid service. So, any other alternatives such as android native APIs to to do the same???

You didn't specify it had to be free!
Tasker will allow you to do this for any app you have but many apps have this sort of functionality built in to them anyway such as SMS clients like handscent and instamapper GPS tracker. but if you are asking can the phone be set to do this for any app without a third party app like tasker then the answer is no.
Incidently tasker is available on 14 day free trial from the devs web site just google "android tasker"

It is not a paid service, it is a paid app. You only buy the app, there is no "service" to pay for

+1 Tasker is probably the best app I have, it replaces so many others. I locate my phone on google maps and sound an alarm based on certain SMS messages I can send my phone using Tasker.
