Kinda surprised no one has posted this.

As seen on droid-life.com the European Motorola team has finally started working on Froyo for the Milestone.
European Milestone Froyo Update Trials Begin Next Week - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

This has lead to a G.O.T. Leaked realease of Android 2.2.
    G.O.T 2.2.1 released G.O.T.'s Blog

So if you want Froyo now there's the G.O.T.'s version or you could wait for Cyanogen's to release their version in the next couple of days.

Or of course you wait until Q1.

Thanks for the info. I'm charging the phone right now and am going to try it as soon as I get SBF flashing going on my new system.

In about an hour. The 103 MB DACH Germany ROM is downloading very slow.

I can't find RSD Lite for OS X so I'll have to boot into Windows to flash it (still transfering from WIndows to OS X).

    UPDATE:
Got everything working. Flash went OK but I didn't get the "PASS" status after flashing with RSD Lite. Phone works great, overclocked to 1000 MHz at max vsel 66 right now, rooted, synced, reduced density to 220 so the text is smaller and I have more screen space, market works, data transfer works, browser works, haven't tested GPS yet but it is reported to work without problems, camera works, music player works, the keyboard is different and I like the change.

If anybody has any questions ... I can test things out if you want.

Overall I'm pleased with this beta release, just needs some more tinkering with to customize it to my liking. Oh and I can't yet comment on battery life since It's only been an hour since I've flashed the device. Will report back.

So far im loving the update. The G.O.T theme is great and i love the style. I haven't touched the density because it messes up a lot of widgets. Battery life seems to be great. Its been 6 hours since i unplugged my phone and my battery is at 70%. I have been playing alot of angry birds and trying to find tuts on the browser for angry birds. Im extremely impressed. Also the keyboard is the multitouch keyboard from the Droid x so its freaking awesome.

The website specifically says not to restore backups from 2.1 as it will screw the phone up. Just reflash it.

Guess I'll wait some more didn't impress me enough to switch. Stock clockin' seemed slower but maybe I didn't give it enough chance... but oh well... good ol' nandroid got me back right to where I left off :D

@dieKatze88: Sorry can't help you much on that. The way I see it is if you know how to flash an SBF and you're wanting Froyo now, then you wouldn't want to run it at stock clock speeds.

If you've checked out G.O.T.'s website they have updated their Open Recovery and it allows you to set the clock speeds.

Battery life = Amazing. After 14 hours ( 6am - 8pm ) i had 40% battery life remaining. Normally on CM6 i would be lucky to have any battery at all. This is with medium usage ( angry birds, browsing, twitter )

I could not resist and did a nandroid backup of my 2.1 and flashed the 2.2. So far it is pretty nice, fast and no reboots or anything. I noticed a problem with a few apps I do not recall having earlier though, maybe I just did not have a chance to check and it was a bug before too, not sure.
All in all a stable and nice ROM. I set up overclocking in GOT Open Recovery and everything is running smoothly.

Don't worry, I restored everything with the pre-made nandroid backup.
Still, the question is, is there such an option to keep the old settings.
I don't know what's your phone usage, but my phone has a lot of settings, apps and manual configurations it would take days to redo.
So wiping it all out is not an option.

I have now made the jump as I had more time to check things over. I'm liking the overall performance and I guess it just needed a couple tweaks. Can't wait for official to come out and most of the bugs to be worked out.

So I flashed the UK version of the GOT update to my UK Milestone yesterday after deleting all user data and clearing the cache partition.

    Here are my first impressions:

    - Ability to move apps to SD is a godsend.

    - Adobe Flash 10.1 now allows me to use the BBC iPlayer site. Video is sharp and runs smooth and fast.

    - Web pages now display with flash elements. Scrolling pages is very jerky and not very responsive even once they are fully loaded. Double tapping to zoom is also not as fast as with 2.1

    - Facebook app will install and sign in, but I can't add it to the sync list so that it will update automatically. It's also impossible to see Facebook contacts or to join FB and Google contacts. No problem with official twitter app.

    - 3G Mobile Hotspot app fails to set up a connection, saying that I should contact my telco. Perhaps it's because I don't live in a 3G area, but a third-party app (Android Tether) worked flawlessly, albeit slowly on 2.1 via GPRS.

    - Power Control widget now allows for automatic screen brightness rather than just low, medium or high.

    - App drawer scrolling is very jerky, and new Froyo Phone and Browser access buttons on app drawer tab are absent - I only have the old default Motorola one, while GOT video shows Froyo layout. Thiswas one of my most wanted features, so I'm really disappointed that it's not working for me.

    - Voice Commands app no longer works at all. it launches and quits automatically whether triggered by finger or by a Bluetooth device.

    - Motonav is gone - I found it a much more rounded and feature-packed navigation app than Google Navigation, but I wasn't willing to pay to use it since I have integrated navigation in my car in any case.

    - New Clock app with integrated weather display is much nicer than what's offered in 2.1

    - Media Gallery app seems unchanged, unlike in the GOT video

    - Market app is improved, with support for updating multiple apps at once.

    - Totally unscientific, but I seem to get a much better GSM signal now. Or at least that's how it seems. I get three to four bars reported now where as with 2.1 I got two to three. Perhaps Motorola has been doing a reverse Applejob on the signal strength calculation formula? I haven't tested it with voice calls to see if the audio ACTUALLY breaks up less.

    - News & Weather app is new. Not sure if that's a Google app of something GOT included.

    - GMail app FINALLY(!) allows copy & paste, the lack of which has at times made me want to toss my Milestone into the nearest lake and go back to my BlackBerry.

    - Phone occasionally makes a quiet screeching noise from the speaker. I haven't figured out what is causing it, because it's intermittent. It happened twice last night, and not at all today. If it happens any more, I will consider reflashing back to Android 2.1

    - Angry Birds runs slightly less smoothly than it does on 2.1. The animation freezes for maybe 250ms or so on occasion. It's still playable though.

I have reverted to 2.1 by flashing the 2.1 SBF, and then re-updated to 2.2 in an attempt to fix the problems I am having with lack of smoothness and the missing Froyo app drawer. Perhaps I'm missing some essential steps...

Overall, there are some great new features in 2.2, but it's not ready for primetime for the Milestone at least. I'm sure I've done something wrong since I'm not getting the same experience as seen in the GOT video. If anyone knows how to get the Froyo app drawer, or to get Facebook to sync, I'd really appreciate the help!

    Thanks,
    SF

Have you tried booting into Open Recovery after flashing and applying the Fix 2.2.1 Bugs update?

    Great indeed.

The only thing I did not like wass the Clock with alarm clock and I simply installed the old version of Alarm clock and the Multimedia Station app.

With most data backed up through apps themselves as well as LPP data backed up it took me 30 minutes to reinstall everything and set up. I do not have too many apps though as I tend to uninstall everything that is not essential.

Can't believe you loaded this and not Cyanogen when you had the chance. Picture this with more tweaks. :p This is slightly more stable, but a Cyanogen with this 2.2.1 kernel is being released soon, so it will be just as stable as this with more modification / tweaking adjustments available.

I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do. This needs further examination as I am finding that the battery life on this drains much faster then 2.1. At the end of the day I will know for sure. I do like this and the amount of tweaks that it has already, but I'm sure I will like the other one but before I switch I want longer battery life! lol :p
