I've had my epic for 8 days now and am having a tough time with it. I've read all of the threads here, but the battery life is just atrocious. I've installed juice defender and app killer. I've ordered several additional batteries and chargers from cellphone.net. Maybe that will help. I do love the phone, but am also not getting my email from my COMCAST account. I've missed some really important emails only to find them later when I log on at a desktop or the browser from the phone. I'm not giving up, but getting darn close. I bough my wife and I the Epic. I may just prefer blackerry at the end of the day. I use moderate to heavy and never had battery life issues with blackberry. Anyways, just wanting someone to talk me off the ledge.
    thanks

I was on a Blackberry for the past two years and honestly was spoiled by the battery life. The vastly reduced battery life is the only real reason why I have any lingering second thoughts about switching to an Android phone.

Otherwise, the Epic is a great smartphone. I just hate having to be so conscientious of the battery level.

Honestly...using my EPIC as a phone, email device and using the WEB without playing games, etc., I find the battery life to be every bit as good if not better than my former BB 9630 and 9650.

It sucked the first couple of days but if I leave WIFI on when I have a signal, keep 4G off and GPS off and use a black background for my screen desktop, this thing is a champ on power.

And...I DO NOT use Juice defender nor an APP killer.

The battery seems to get better with a couple of weeks of use. Also have you tried toggling airplane mode on and off when you first turn your phone on? You can find more on this under Tips and Tricks.

Previously I had the samsung moment, which has horrendous battery life, so Im very pleased with the epics. I dont expect too much out of smartphone battery life anyway. I have never owned a blackberry, but If I was a buisnessman I would get it right away.. It depends what you need the phone for the most. oh yea and I have never had email problems. They arrive when they should, same as computer. just my 2cents.

I'm with you all. I thought that the missing emails were my imagination. Seidio is coming out with a 2x battery. God only knows how much it will cost.

I Love what this does compared to the Blackberry, but might have to consider switching back

I think I am feeling the same way. I am about to switch back to a blackberry. I am not getting emails from comcast either. I have tried to hang in there with advice from here but am just not feeling this epic any more. The phone is larger than I am use to with the blackberry and I find it hard to type at a good speed on it. I am like DILands, I love what the epic does compared to a blackberry but think I really need to go back.

That's right on the money with the typing speed. I'm getting better at swype but the keyboard is not doing it for me. The buttons aren't raised enough and they're spaced way too far apart. I could type at lightning speed with blackberry. Maybe I'll get faster on the epic soon.

I don't think my technique has gotten any better with Swype, but I swear it's getting easier to use. I don't know if it's my imagination, but it seems to be adapting to my style. Anyone else experiencing this?

As someone who was an early adopter and loyal user of Blackberry devices, it was extremely difficult for me to leave RIM and go to Android. When it comes down to it, I did not make the decision to switch because I wasn't happy with the performance of my previous devices, it was because Android devices offer so much more!

If Blackberry had not have fallen so far behind Apple and Google, I would still be using a BB. They simply missed the boat, no other way to say it. Now, they are desperately trying to play catch up. OS 6 for BB is much improved, but it ain't there yet! Maybe the BB Storm 3 (due out sometime in 2011) will be a true competitor to the iPhone and Android, but at this moment in time there is simply no comparison between BB and Android.

More power.... more features.... more BATTERY USE!!! There is no way around it. If having a phone that will last two days between charges is more important to you than having a device than can play HD quality movies, run thousands of cool apps, and is fully customizable, then go back to a Blackberry.

Really? It seems I could never type 3 keys in a row w/o fat fingering one of them. I never really got comfortable enough with BB to use it for email. I always have my laptop nearby so I still use that for email.

As for battery life, sure, my Curve could go 3 days w/o a recharge. Mainly because I didn't use for much more than sms text. I have a spare battery for my Epic and keep a hot charge on both whenever I can. Swapping a battery in Epic is painless compared to a BB swap.

no, I was fully charged at 7 am, did 20 mins of calls, checked texts and here I sit at 930 am at 65% charged. That's unacceptable.

I agree, that is unacceptable. That is definitely not normal. Have you tried any of the suggestions from the "Tips and Tricks" section? Those will significantly extend battery life. If that doesn;t help maybe you have a bad battery and need to do an exchange.

if people are having issues with specific email, try downloading K-9 and use that to see if it works. Could be an easier workaround than doing some forwarding.

For me it's probably going back to my old Curve, or getting the Seidio battery. Another strike against the EPIC is the pretty much non functional GPS
