Let those who have voices...speak, let those who have ears..listen...just don't make me type it out.

    SPEAK

No microphone icon...I'm a little worried about this because one of the main features I really 'needed' from a new android phone was the ability to input text in emails and txt messages using voice to speech. In the what are you doing to prepare thread I said I'm waiting, but that was a small lie in the fact that I have been ruthlessly researching a new BlueTooth device to go with my new phone. More on that after the first point.

Where is my microphone? was this feature not a standard feature with 2.0? One of the reasons I wanted a phone with the newest version of Android OS was for this feature. So where is it?

    LISTEN
So, yeah, I've been really hitting the BT market. This phone is not only suppose to be a phone, but also replace my mp3 player so that 1. I only have one device to carry around. 2. I dont miss calls cause I'm listening to the other device! With my mp3 player I MAINLY listen to audiobooks, long commute to work makes this ideal therapy vs traffic, so I dont necessarily need a stereo bluetooth, but for those times I do want to listen to music I really would like a nice stereo bluetooth device...in the end I could use a normal bluetooth for listening to audiobooks/phonecalling/speech to txting (if I can)

So I have essentially narrowed it down to 2 models
    Altec Lansing/Plantronics Backbeat 903
Amazon.com: Plantronics 903/R US BackBeat Headphones: Electronics
Fairly inexpensive. nice and easy to use design doesnt have total in ear so I can wear them and still hear somewhat around me which is important to me. They say the sound is good and microphone is good.

    or the Jabra BT8010
Amazon.com: Jabra BT8010 Stereo/Mono Bluetooth Headset: Cell Phones & Service
A good bit more expensive, but it acts like a normal bluetooth and that would be fine for normal talking/audiobooks, but then I could plug the second part in for listening to music. Has great reviews and looks like an excellent product easy to use.

But here is the kicker...can I do speech to text or not?

if not I may have to consider this very nice bluetooth headset that has an android app which allows you to do just about anything using voice commands such as sending texts, and it also uses A2DP, but only mono so I would have to use regular headphones when i wanted to listen to music/pandora.

the voice key is definately on the default android keyboard, but not on the swype or samsung keyboard at the moment.

EDIT: Simple solution, install HTC keyboard with voice key, so u get good keyboard and voice input

The google search widget has a mic icon. Not sure why the keyboard doesn't. I do see an icon that looks like a cog of some kind. That might be a "tools" button you can hit for alternative things, like voice-to-speech. Somebody who has played with one may be able to confirm.

I played with a vibrant about 20 minutes ago, and i can definately confirm the voice input key is not on the swype and samsung keyboards, but it is on the default android keyboard, so the OS definately supports it, the specific keyboards dont.

from what I hear anyways the swype keyboard will have the voice input key on the epic 4g so when that comes out we just rip the apk.

That will be good. I dont mind replacing the keyboard as long as the one I get is decent. I played with the captivates keyboard and was pretty well spaced and easy to use.

Does anyone have any input on the Bluetooth devices?
