I'm looking to partition my MicroSD card so a chunk of it will be dedicated to app space, but I have some questions....and I am sorry for that :p

    Edit:

Did everything, and now I just want to know where it moved all my apps to on the SD card...

All your apps downloaded will move the to ext partion on the sdcard that you made. You cannot view the ext partion in android or windows. You can't view it in windows because windows does not support the ext file system. But Linux does support it.

The ally is using an app2sd built by the community. It's not an apk it's a kernel. Do some searching on the forums. Velocity v0.3 has app2sd built in and theres a seperate app2sd for any ZVB rom.

You can view the files in android, you will need root and a file browser like Astro...
Your non system apps will be moved to /system/sd/apps

You do realize Android is modified version of linux, right?

LOL. Yes i know android is based of the linux kernel. And i have tried looking with various file browsers before i when was testing apps2sd before public release.

Just to make sure about seeing them in a file browser i checked using Astro, Estrongs, and OI File manager and they either empty folder or directory empty whenever i went into /system/sd. Maybe they can see them with root explorer? Not sure.

And app2sd is setup correctly as the app2sd check script says that the apps are linked to the sdcard and run from sdcard.

    Oh gotcha, I see.

I tend to think theres a problem with your ap2sd script....

Get Astro or use the terminal to go to /data/app

    Code (Text):
    1. su
    2. cd /data/app
    3. ls -l
If you see all the apps on your phone in there your ap2sd script did not function correctly.

FWIW I had the same issue at first... the symbolic link was there but the system hadnt mounted the partition that I created....

Those outputs seem correct to me. Just posted those screenshots for reference.

I can also see the apps on the 512mb ext4 partion in the app folder on ubuntu when i mount the sdcard.

Nope i am using the app2sd that killertonez got working. http://androidforums.com/ally-all-things-root/191916-a2sd-multi-roms-ally.html

The one he got working is a different version than the one thats in velocity v0.3

Also how would i see the system apk's in /data/app?

    When i do
    Code (Text):
    1.
    2. ls -l /system/app
    I can see them.

Interesting thanks for linking that thread.

Looks like this method moves it all to the SD, so you wouldnt see anything in the /data/app folder but the symbolic link.

How is the performance with the system apks on the SD card? Did you set a cache partition?

What do you get when you run this?

    Code (Text):
    1. su
    2. cd /system/sd
    3. df
I cant see any reason why android shouldnt be able to read its own fs. Maybe I will try this method tonight.

The system apk's are in the /system/app directory like they have always been. Not on the sdcard. Here's an screenshot.

Here's a screenshot for the df command.

And no there are no cache partions and dalivk cache is not set to move to the sdcard.

When partitioning the SD card it says that it will wipe everything on it. What files should I save?

Backup everything thats on the card that want to your PC before partioning. Because it will wipe the card completely.

As i said in one of my earlier posts. I am not sure you can or cannot see them with Root Explorer as i do not have/use it. If someone here uses it they should be able to tell us. :p

In Root Explorer data/app you can see the apps that are installed, but you cannot see them in the sd/ directory
