    Okay, so I just bought this phone and I love the style and function and everything. Except for where I live I don't have good coverage. I have a wireless network at home so I was trying to connect to it. It shows up on my phone but it wont connect, it asks for a password so I type in everything that I could think of and it just says : Authenticating, scanning, disconnected. What I was wondering is.. do I need actual coverage to be able to connect to wifi? Am I typing in the wrong Password? I don't know it's really frustrating. and I also can't connect my phone to my computer, I have a USB adaptor but it only charges when I plug it into my phone... Someone please help.. :confused:

    Welcome to the Android Forums!

    First off check to make sure you are connecting to the SSID representing your home network and not that of one of your neighbors. Next it sounds like it may be looking for a WEP key or WPA password. Did you set up any kind of security on the wireless network? Did you use WEP encryption? WPA? WPA2?

    Hate to say it but if you haven't used the 1 hour of talk time and still under 7 days... return it... the coverage won't get better - take it from experience :(

    Try Virgin Mobile better clearer coverage and cheaper plans...

    Well.. the coverage is good every where else just not my house. And I can't afford to switch to any other carrier. I don't want a contract and I have to have unlimited everything and metro is the only one that has no contract.

    What is WEP WPA WPA2?

    it says secured with WPA/WPA2 PSK... what does that mean?

    WEP, WPA, and WPA2 are forms of wireless encryption available through most wireless access points. If it says WPA/WPA2 PSK that means that you've got either WPA or WPA encryption enabled. PSK means that the encryption is using a pre-shared key. A pre-shared key is basically a password defined in the wireless configuration on the access point. To connect successfully you'll need to enter the exact same password into the phone that's defined on the access point.

    Did you have someone configure your wireless network for you?

    I live with my aunt and uncle.. They did it or they had comcast do it I'm not sure. I'm sorry if I sound stupid, but by access point you mean the router? How would I find the password? Would we have to look through the main computer or call comcast...

    If your Comcast router has one or more little rubber antennas protruding from it then it's most likely whats functioning as the wireless access point.

    Assuming that this is the case, somewhere in the configuration of that router is the password you'll need. I'm not sure if Comcast can help you or not but you'll need someone local to you to determine that password for you.

    Virgin Mobile and Boost are sprint carriers so your coverage may increase significantly. They also have no contract plans that are not as stringent as Metro with unlimited everything or less. I just spent a month arguing with my husband why I HAD to stay with Metro... I may or maynot have worked there for a year ;) Then I found a phone I liked, better coverage and costs less than Metro. Check to see if this is an option for you.

    If you can't do what you need with comcast then I would suggest the option we gave to many customers who had the same problem, usually the result of living in apartment building whose structures limited or blocked signal. Get a bluetooth headset and leave the phone in the area of the house that does get a good signal, usually by a window.

    Metro is a wonderful option to many and I hope you find something that works for you :)

    If they have a modem that connects to the land line, try looking on the modem for your security key. A lot of internet providers have pre-programmed security keys and will have a label on the modem that lists the key. If not, you can go into your browser on any computer that's connected to the modem and type into the URL bar and you should be able to access the configuration for the modem, unless you have a separate router hooked up to the modem. Hopefully the modem won't be password protected, and you can look under the Wireless section for the key.

    As for connecting the phone to a computer, you'll need the USB Android driver for it. You can get it here. Unzip it to a folder you can remember, and if your computer asks you to provide a driver for it, tell it you'll find the driver location yourself and point it to that folder and it should get you set up.

    i had that issue and for whatever reason if you router is on but ur modem is off thats what will happen so the phone obviously realizes there is no internet connection unlike how if i connect my laptop and it connects to the router regardless of if i have internet or not. so basically my modem was unplugged my phone tried to connect then disconnected. i plugged in modem and it worked fine.
  11. I am having the same problem with wifi, and both modem and router are plugged in. I'm leaning towards it being a setting on my router that I chose previously when I first purchased it. Help please. Thanks.

    With comcast most of the time the router and modem is in the same device. And on the bottom of the router there is a sticker that haves the password on the bottom. It look like a serial number most of the time it contains both numbers and letters. You can call comcast and they can tell you which one is the password on the router. And of course if there's more then one wifi network that shows up when you do a wifi search on you're phone make sure you are connected to the one that you own.
