Heres what happened... A good friend of mine did a factory reset soon after I rooted her phone because sms stoped working. now it wont boot to anything other then Download mode and only after many trys to even get it to do that. I have flashed and mods lots of phones before but I cant get anything to work with this phone. the one program I found and thought might work has a dead link and no where on the net can I found it. if anyone has any ideas please help or even the ROMTools v2.3.1 (ex-recoveryflasher) I could try all that I have collected.. Thanks

Factory resetting a rooted V usually spells brick!
Did you install a custom recovery and backup the system in the recovery after you rooted it? If yes, can you get in recovery mode? Doe's your PC recognize it with the LG Optimus V drivers installed? Do you already have ADB established in your system path(I'm assuming you do because of the reference to ROMTools)?

If no custom recovery and a backup made in the recovery, then you have a paperweight.

The only chance (slim though it be) is if the phone is recognized by the PC. If not, buy her another one and use that one for spare parts.

The PC will see it and has installed the right drivers... when i try to boot phone into recovery mode its just a black screen... but my PC tells me its connected.. and when I try like the KDZ upgrader it will start the steps... it even boots phone to emergency mode and then I get a error of 502. Its like I dont have the right kdz file. I hope there is still a chance with it knowing the PC will talk to it.. but everytime I try to do a command line ADB its status is unknown. Thanks for helping.. This phone is really pissing me off

Black Screen in the recovery. Hmm, what recovery did you install? It might be the wrong recovery for your screen version. You probably have the Hitachi screen which can only use the Xionia v1.2518.6 (not the .4) , the VM670NH, and the IHO. Anything else gives you a black screen.
Not a problem, I figured out a workaround.

Try looking here http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/419080-truth-about-rom-manager.html the workaround for the black screen in the recovery is near the top. You can't miss it.
Make sure you have a custom ROM.zip(and the Gapps.zip if a Gingerbread ROM) and The Bob Zohme modified CWM recovery(VM670NH_recovery.img) on the Root of the uSD card (not in a folder, just near the bottom of the list of folders).
Once you have the ROM installed, download a Terminal Emulator and install the recovery.
Install instructions for the ROM and recovery can be found here http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...ry-reset-your-rooted-phone-2.html#post3263770
