Everything on my Volt (not rooted for fear of bricking it) is getting so increasingly slow that I can barely write this post
)
It's also doing strange things (e.g., self-resets display timeout, et al)

Clean Master almost constantly says I've"secretly running apps" but when I look at them, there are few that I can or want to force quit

I imagine anyone who might help will need more info from me so I'll just leave it at that for now

PLEEEASE, somebody help me!!!

Thanks!

Lose clean master and Google how to boot your phone into "recovery mode" and from there "clear cache partition"
If that doesn't work, starting out fresh with a factory reset will probably improve things (this wipes all data)

Thanks, funkylogik, but every recovery app I see in Play Store requires root (my os is stock) and any alternative methods I'd pulled up via Google requires a pc (and my Mac is currently down)

Guess I need to go the factory reset route, no?

Damned autocorrect changed your "funkylogik" moniker to "unhelpful", so please disregard the unintended cut: I do appreciate your efforts!

I saw one article that made reference to the two buttons but the authors English was so broken, that I moved on from there

I'm guessing that the cache partition to which you're referring is something other than what I sometimes clear under system/storage/cache

Forgive me: if it ain't obvious by now, I'm still pretty nube-ish to Android phones

http://www.mobiany.com/how-to-wipe-the-cache-partition-on-lg-volt.html

Typically, you can't clear the system cache - even with apps that claim to do this - unless you're rooted. Earlier Android maybe but not anymore.

Clearing the main cache per the link won't lose your data.

Clean Master is contributing to your problem, definitely get rid of it.

Here's more than you ever wanted to know on the subject but if you're interested, all aspects are covered -

After clearing cache and losing Clean Master give your phone a day or two to settle down and then you'll likely see some nice improvements.

Definitely interested!

Having read the posts (but not just yet followed the links), clean master and battery Dr. are getting served their eviction notices

As per your recommendation, I'll give it a couple of days, then report back...in triplicate

Thanks all for your help...you da best!

Nice. :)

Yeah looking back I may have been unclear.

You can't clear your main cache with an app unless you're rooted.

You can clear it from your stock recovery (under the hood) and following that first link will tell you how. And for that, you don't need to be rooted.

"Give it a couple of days", NOT!

immediately after uninstalling bp and cm, things have sped up by orders of magnitude...excellent!

Go to bed knowing you done good
