Help links in handcent?

sure, I think it is supposed to be 'checked' by default, and I accidently unchecked it some time ago without noticing it until it was too late to remember where to set it back. It is buried in:

Handcent Menu>Settings>Custom Style>Bubble Settings>Others

Check 'Smart Links'

Followed this and Smart Links is checked, however the numbers in text messages do not hyperlink nor can I dial a number after long pressing a text. I should note the phone numbers appear hyperlinked and when you click it goes to phone, however the number is not there. Any suggestions?
