locked bootloader petition

I strongly disagree. This will not make them listen, the only thing a corporation like Moto understands is money.Stop buying there products, and stop recommending them. Its too bad because I feel neither HTC or Samsungs phones are built with the same quality contruction of a motorola...but its the only way to get action...

Haven't you seen that HTC is now following Moto and is locking the bootloader on their newest devices??

They are locking it, but not encrypting it. Big difference there!

one small step from encryption unfortunately....its coming, im almost sure of it...

Now how is tethering stealing when I pay for internet

well it allows you to share your 3G signal with other people, not technically authorized to be connected to Verizon's network...that is why they make you pay for it because it puts more strain on their network...

now if you're sharing wifi, its a little different, but if you have a wifi signal, the devices you're trying to share with should also be able to pick up that signal, making the fact that you're sharing a little redundant...

Well, I'm still hoping that whenever Moto decides to release their statement about the bootloaders, it shows the want to work with us. Hopefully that petition will have some impact, but I don't see it doing to much seeing as how only 1500+ people have signed it. With millions of users, 1500 represents an insignificant minority (I'm not saying we are insignificant :) I just wish we were more recognized).

and their response to my question
"protect end user from what?"

my assumption as to what they are getting at there, is the same reason all of the devs put the typical disclaimer with all of their custom ROMS and themes...the whole "I'm not responsible for what you do to your phone.." stuff...

Moto is taking the stance that by locking people out of the bootloader they are protecting their customers from bricking their phones....and Moto/VZW can't be responsible for supporting a device that is using non official software...

Now, i understand your stance, that you don't care about those risks, and are willing to take them (as am i, and many others here)...but i can also see Moto's position on this as well...

id noticed their site went down again;

UPDATE (30th March 2011):

We are now at the ~2500 mark. This has been a fantastic result and we're trying to see those numbers get even higher.

Groubal has now been the victim of 2 hack attacks that brought down the site for a couple of hours. The founder of Groubal beleives this is a result of the Motorola/Bootloader petition as they have not experienced these attacks before.
------" Hello Irwin,

Yes indeed...Groubal was hacked once again. We have our technical team and our hosting enterprise working feverishly on this to remedy the problem.

Clearly your petition and all your supporters have touched off serious nerves; and your message has created amazing awareness around the world now.

We will fix the problem and move forward. Please take the time to let everyone know on all the forums what has happened to Groubal.

Thanks in advance,
