Yes, I know there are numerous apps that provide this; however, I'm looking for one that only provides an interface for the built-in visual voicemail app and does *not* redirect or forward calls through its own system.
Sprint already has visual voicemail and I don't trust third-party systems (Google Voice and YouView have both already failed me -- missed calls and text messages). I see no reason for them, anyway, when it's already provided.
As far as I know, my phone (SGS2 - Epic 4G Touch; Android 2.3.6 [rooted]) stores voicemail messages on its hard drive, so I see no reason this can't be done.
Why do I want this? Because the built-in voicemail app is horrendously ugly.
