Help Lost contacts after factory reset

I didn't manually backup anything because I thought it was already done... My apps are fine and I got all of them back, but I lost all of my contacts. When I try to import from Gmail, the only ones are emails... Help? If it's impossible to get them back, what went wrong so I can prevent this from happening again in the future?

when you set up your gmail account, you have to tell it to sync your contacts to gmail. When you do a factory reset, as you found out, it puts the phone back to how it was when you took it out of the box. In short, there really isn't a way to get them back. When your setting up the phone this time, make sure you tell it to sync contacts to gmail as well.

So, you didn't use Backup Assistant? That's an automated thing that backs them back up for you for instances such as this. If you didn't do that, jman42028 is right. You have to manually type them all back in
